As you sat at the table with the Prince and his family, you started to wonder why you were here.
Why did you, a tutor, get to eat with the royals? Why did Misandra want you to help her?
It was just strange."(Y/N), your soup is going to get cold."
Says the Prince. You turn to look at him, with a somewhat apologetic smile.
"Sorry.."
He was resting his chin in his palm, smiling at you. It was a bit embarrassing, so you decided to look away from him.
But before you could start eating your soup, you heard the queen clear her throat. You flinch and look up at her. She smiles sweetly, directing her gaze at her son.
"How was your day, sweetie?" She asked politely. He turned to his mother, returning her smile. "It was a bit tiring at first, but turned out to be rather nice."You glanced around, noticing that Misandra and Andral looked absolutely exhausted.
"Are you two o-" Just as you spoke, the king started talking.
"Ace, Caster, have the two if you finished the paperwork I gave you? I'll be needing it by noon tomorrow."
His voice showed his impatience."I'll have it to you before curfew." Caster states proudly before glancing at his younger brother.
The Prince avoided his fathers gaze.
"I'll have it finished by morning."
The king scoffed.
"You had just as much work as your brother, Just as much time to finish it. And yet its still not ready?"
The king was oozing with judgement. You hadn't heard anybody speak with such venom over such a small matter before.
"I'm sorry, I'll have it done on time."
The Prince stayed looking down at his plate while his brother grinned at him from across the table.
"On time won't always be enough, boy! If you're going to be king one day, then you better damned well act like a king! You should always be ahead, there's no excuses for bad-""I'm sorry!"
You said, standing up suddenly, stopping the kings lecture.
"I showed up at his study unannounced." You didn't want Ace to get lectured for something that you may have caused.
"I distracted him from his work, I was very selfish and I hadn't thought about the responsibilities that he needed to take care of."
You held a slight bow, and didn't hear a word from the family for a moment. And then a giggle.
"Oh, love! See, my boy was at no fault~" She said, wrapping her arms around her husbands arm.
"(Y/N) was just trying to be helpful" she continued "such a doll, being so honest, admitting to her fault."
Her voice was showered with honey as she gave you the strangest look.
"I'm sure she had good intentions. But you now how Greens can be."
The king sighed.
"Mother.." The Prince growled under his breath.
The king waved his hand, motioning for you to sit back down.
"Sit, sit. I can forgive it this once, but don't make another mistake (Y/N), my boys have very important shoes to fill, and can't have such distractions."
He finished by taking a big swig of wine from his cup.
The queen stared at you for quite a while before returning to her meal. The Prince hadn't taken his eyes off of his meal. You couldn't quite tell what his expression was, but you got a certain feeling that was very unhappy.Dinner was almost over, and most of the family had excused themselves from the table.
Misandra, Andral, Caster & the Queen had all left. Leaving you with Ace and the King.
You stared down at your food. It was a delicious looking cake, fluffy with lots of fruit and light airy cream filling.
While eating, you heard Ace speak very quietly to you.
"I'm going to sleep in your room tonight." He mumbles Before standing up and excusing himself, mentioning needing to finish his work. After a few long, silent minutes, you had emptied your plate and drank most of your tea. You were about to excuse yourself when the king spoke.
"(Y/N)." He said sternly.
"Yes?" You ask, sitting straight.
"Your wrist, it was my wife, wasn't it?"
The king was poking at his food with a solemn expression.
You look away and nod slowly.
He sighs.
"That woman.. That psychotic, aggressive.. Loving woman.." He looks up, locking eyes with you.
"If she does anything like that to you again, you tell me at once. Understood?"
"Yes, your grace." You say timidly with a nod.
"I don't let Misandra be intimidated by her mother, I won't let you either." He stood up as he spoke, before sending you a caring smile. "And head to the Medic to have your bruise treated. No need to have it for longer then necessary." He says, walking towards the door.
"I will.. Thank you." There was more genuine appreciation in your voice then you had expected. Before leaving, he stops by you and places his hand on your head.
"No need for thanks, you're a good kid."You sit there for a moment after he left.
He was nicer then you thought he would be. Perhaps he was just impatient before.
Standing up from your seat, you start heading towards your room.
On the way, you pass the garden. Thinking about it now, you still have the fairy cradles in your room. They would be far healthier in nature, even if it is a bit withered and dull.Arriving at your room, you open the door to see that Misandras stuff had been moved out already. You should thank her for that tomorrow.
For now you should put the Fairy cradles in the garden, and then get some very much wanted rest.
