"Alright." Grimm says, turning around with two articles of clothing.
You didn't realize how serious he is in the moment. He looks..
He looks like he did back when you first met him..
You take the pants and shoes.
As you put them on, you see Grimm press his ear to the door. In mere moments his expression changes and he hops into action.
He turns and grabs you, shoving you into a corner, tucked behind baskets full of unclean clothing. You didn't fully understand what he was doing, until you heard the rushed, heavy footsteps.
And doors opening and closing all around.
You try and say something to Grimm but he shushes you, his face etched with worry as he turns to face the door.
"Stay quiet and don't move." He whispers with urgency.
Just as you lean back to the wall, hiding yourself, you hear the steps reach the door.
Without warning, it swings open and hits the wall.
It slams against the wall so hard that it shook some of the baskets stacked around the room. A few even fell. one toppled right over you and you stayed as silent as you could when the basket hit you on the head.
"Let me go!"
You hear the sounds of thrashing and discourse.
"Grimm Hanble, due to your disobedience, you will be confined to the jail until further notice."
Against your better judgement, you peek through the handle of the basket that had fallen on your head.
You could see Grimm struggling in the grasp of two guards, one on each side of him.
Despite his resistance, he's dragged out, both arms completely restrained in their grasps. The guards don't bother checking the rest of the room, but the door is left wide open.
After a few minutes, long after the sound of Grimm's struggles had dissipated, you finally left your hiding spot.
You rush to put your shoes on, not bothering to fully lace them up. Instead you tuck them into the Hem of the boot, hoping they don't fall out and trip you as you make your escape.
Thinking that maybe going through the window was the quickest option, you check to see if you could spot any potential witnesses to your escape. And unfortunately, there was. The worst possible witnesses in fact. The Princes little cousins.. And the Queen.
Seeing no other choice, you decide to find another way.
Pulling the hood down to partially obscure your face, you head out into the halls.
As you walk further, you notice that your previous issue hadn't been resolved at all- you have no idea where you are.
Not to mention the fact that you still need to pee..
You shake your head. It can wait. By the time you really have to pee, you'll be out of here.
The heavy footsteps of soldiers from down the hall catches your attention.
You lower your head as they round the corner, wanting them to pass without incident.
But you don't always get what you want.
One of the guards stops upon seeing you, narrowing his eyes as he looks you up and down. Your heart feels like its going to crumble under the pressure.
"Oi, rider, what're you doing down here?" One of the other guards calls out.
You steady your voice, hoping to make it sound less feminine. You know you can't pull off the voice of a man, so you aim for young boy instead.
"Got lost sir." Simple enough response. They seem to buy it too. One of them points to his left.
"Stables are out the last door down that hall."
You nod and pass him, uttering a small thanks as you do.
"Aye!" One of them calls out to you.
Hesitantly, you turn back towards them.
This guy still looks suspicious of you.
"What were you doing in here?"
Without missing a beat, you scoff and grumble "Laundry." Before turning on your heels, heading back towards the hall.
After a moment, you hear one of the guards laugh and then they left.
You sigh in relief.
Thankfully you thought quickly enough. Unfortunately, immediately leaving means that you wouldn't be able to grab your bag from your room.
At this point though, you didn't care. You were scared, worried, and slightly angry.
You just wanted to leave this crazy castle. With its crazy Queen, crazy Prince and crazy.. Crazy Queen!
There was no reason not to resent that woman. Your wrist still has marks from when she first threatened you.
But the one you do feel bad for in this family is missandra. Admittedly, you've no doubt that she's likely still the same brat as she was before. But she's still a child. With care and comfort, she could blossom into a wonderful individual.
Grimm, Clemente, Milly, Hercules..
There are plenty of people here who you hold absolutely no resentment for. And you wish the best for them.
But right now, more then anything, you want to protect one person.
Your troublesome little brother.
Thinking about him worries you, and you unintentionally pick up speed as you near the doors.
You swing them open, the sunlight catching in your eyes, blinding you for a moment as you stumble down the steps.
You approach the stables, looking around to see if anybody was nearby. And to your dismay, there were guards placed at every possible exit you could take by horse.
Taking a deep breath, you walk past a guard and enter the stable.
There were plenty of horses, the issue was trying to get one out of there. Though you didn't have to go by horse, it would be odd for somebody wearing a riders hood not to be riding.
As you fret over taking a horse or running, something catches your eye.
Confusion takes over as you pull your bag from behind a bale of hay.
How..?
Actually, it doesn't matter.
you hold the bag to your chest and try your best to stay calm as you leave the stables. The guards haven't paid you any mind yet. You walk in the direction you think leads to the main road.
The guards don't seem to care as you pass by them. Its a relief, but it doesn't ease you.
To get to the meeting spot, you'll have to pass the area that you saw the Queen in earlier. You can only hope that she's moved on since then.
