The crunching of leaves was the only sound I could hear over my heavy breathing. My calves burned due to the amount of running I've been doing for the past fifteen minutes. I was free. I couldn't help but let the grin stretch across my face at those words. I was free! I can go back home and see my friends, my family!
Soon enough those thoughts of optimism were clouded with pessimistic views. What if Reese comes after me again? What I'd he comes for Audrenia? He can't! He won't touch her! Will he? Will he get to her before me if that's his plan? What about Liam? Will he forgive me, or will he forever imagine me as a monster?
These thoughts and worries circled my head. They tied my brain into knots and twisted my hope into fear. How could I be so stupid? I can't endanger them as much as I have already! All he wants is power-my power. And he's going to do everything to get it unless he's stopped. It's not much help either that he's in charge of the Zodiac Signs. Think, Mayla, what needs to be done?
