{Note: Okay. I could see that you are a bit confused of the time transition between the present and the past happenings. So to clear things up, the past or flashback started somewhere in Chapter 4 up to Chapter 8 and the next chapters are all in the present time. I hope I answered all your concerns. She should refuse. She knows she has to refuse him. But this surprising vulnerable side of him was not being kind to her rationality.
And her goddamned mouth is not working!
"Up!"
Wonwoo and Leanne looked down together at the small voice. The little boy was tugging at Wonwoo's pants with an earnest look in his small eyes.
"No." Wonwoo shook his head, but the little boy just raises his arms up to him.
"Uncle, up! Up!"
Wonwoo squatted down to level his sight. She was even surprise with how Wonwoo tried to soften his voice. "Daniel, baby, you're a big boy now. And big boys walk."
"Miss you, Uncle Woo." He pouted adorably. "Please! Up!"
Wonwoo sighed resignedly. "Alright." Then he scooped his nephew with a grunt and walked away from her.
What the – She think he just found something to do to avoid what her answer would be. That man . . .
He walked to the windows where they could see the city light probably to show it to the little boy. She just followed them instead of staying with Wonwoo's siblings and parents.
"So how's your day, baby?" She heard him asked the kid after kissing the boy's cheeks.
"We play with Mi and Di."
She just stood beside the window facing the two while listening to them talk. The little boy is too cute for her, especially when he waves those tiny hands in the air.
"What did you play with Mi and Di?" Wonwoo asked indulgently, that made her want to smile like that little boy did.
She didn't expect Wonwoo could be this gentle and affectionate. It made him look endearing and loveable . . . like the man she thought she had glimpsed before, that she thought she would never see again.
"We play bike!" The kid exclaimed in glee.
Wonwoo smiled at his nephew. And she couldn't stop staring at him. That was the only time she saw him smile after those years that they haven't seen each other. It was unguarded and real.
Well, at least, talking with this little angel was easing his tensions away.
If life hadn't been cruel . . . She wonders what would happen then.
Her forehead creased at to where her thoughts are going. Of course nothing's going to happen. What happen already happened. Past is past as they say. Life moves on.
"What?"
She blinked at Wonwoo's deep voice. He was looking at her now with an annoyed frown. She forgot that she was staring intently at them.
She lifts up one shoulder. "Nothing. You just look like a normal being now."
He scowled deeper. "Do I look like a monster to you?"
"Monster? Monster, Uncle?" The boy girl pointed at Wonwoo.
Wonwoo shook his head while holding his nephew's little hands. "No, baby. I'm your handsome Uncle."
Wonwoo glared at her when he heard her sniffled snort. "What? Is it a crime to laugh at a joke?"
"Don't start feeding him bad words."
