Practice

After about 10 to 15 minutes Cody was called by coach to join the rest of the team. As the coach talked to the team I finished reading the rulebook and placed it down next to me. After a minute Cody walked back over.

"Here hold this for me." He tossed his stick in my direction and I caught it with ease.

"Don't you need this?" I ask.

"No coach wants me on defense for doing 2 on 1 so Long stick." He says picking up one of the long sticks that lay on the ground and walking onto the field.

Cody's POV

I walk back to the field after grabbing a long stick to play defense when Kaden who was also playing defense spoke.

"Why is that girl here Coach never lets anyone watch practice."

"She is here to help."

"How's she gonna help she's a girl, and girls and sports don't mix."

"She is going to help the same way she did last night at the game when she helped us win." we blocked the first person who went from scoring.

"Funny joke Cody it was you who helped us win you gave us the ideas."

"Yeah only because she gave them to me."

"Yeah sure you probably did it to get your little girlfriend here to impress her." someone slipped passed and scored.

"She is not my girlfriend we are just friends."

"Friends with benefits right, I know what you are like." I turned to face Kaden.

"I may be like that but Ava is not, so don't you ever speak of her like that do you understand me," I say harshly as someone scored a goal and then coach spoke.

"Cody, Kaden what's wrong with you guys you're supposed to be guarding the goal."

"Sorry Coach," we say in unison. We kept going at 2 on 1 it was now down to the last few guys. One took a step and shot the ball Kaden caught it easily and turned to me.

"If this girl is so good and gave you the ideas why is she not out here helping now." He steps back and launched the ball at Ava by the looks of it the ball was going to hit her right in the stomach, but as it approached she stood up swiftly moving my stick she held to catch the ball. Everyone on the field had been watching and were taken aback by how easily Ava caught the ball.

I made a motion for her to throw the ball back to me she nodded slightly and threw the ball it came right to me, an easy catch I almost didn't have to move to catch it. Everyone was even more astonished now. Coach looked to me for answers as did the rest of the team but I just shrugged in response.

Ava's POV

Cody was on the field with another player they were talking I didn't want to listen in but I did and I didn't like what the other player was saying. I blocked it out till coach called their names. Kaden his name was Kaden. They continued what they were doing and I paid close attention to the others until it got towards the end and Kaden spoke after having caught a ball. I didn't pay attention to what he said. The next thing I know is there is a ball coming at me I use Cody's stick that he had given me to catch the flying ball with ease.

The team stands around shocked. Cody makes a motion for me to throw the ball back to him, so I nodded and threw it went out of the stick and flew across the field and right into the netting of the stick Cody was holding. This caused the team to look even more shocked then they had before. They all looked to Cody for answers but he just shrugged. Then Kaden called out.
