Let the Tryouts Begin

* Sorry if this feels like a filler chapter It will get better next promise and sorry for the wait.

When I finish my homework awhile later I pull out my phone and text Cody.

A: Guess what?

C: What's up

A: My mum said yes

C: She is gonna let you try out for the team

A: Yeah she is

C: That's awesome

A: I know I basically had to beg her

C: Well then tomorrow at lunch we celebrate, then at practice you make the team.

A: What makes you so sure I'll make the team

C: Because I saw what you can do and I believe in you.

A: Oh really?

C: And because I am a co-captain and I have some say and influence with Coach

A: You would do that for me?

C: Of course I would what are friends for. Anyway I should go do homework now

A: Okay see you tomorrow

C: See you, Princess.

I smiled to myself before putting my phone away. It was quarter to 8 so I decided to go for a run I get changed and head out calling out to my mum as I leave.

"Hey, mum going for a quick run be back eventually."

"Okay, have fun."I hear her call as I head out.I do my usual route I use when I go for runs. A minute after passing by the clearing my phone buzzes in my pocket. I pull it out to see a text on the group chat between Bella, James, Cody and myself.

C: Ava's trying out for lacrosse

B: Ava and sports who knew

A: Hey I'm apart of this chat too

B: Sorry but it is true

J: You'd be the first girl on the guy's team if you make it

A: Really?

C: Yeah and she'll make it, you'll make it

B: How would you know

C: I saw her at practice, and we are celebrating at lunch tomorrow

B: Okay

J: Cool

Then the chat winded down and I continued my run before heading back home taking a long shower then going to sleep. The next morning I get up and dressed the normal routine. Go to school sit through class then it is lunch. Cody grabs my hand and leads me to a deserted classroom, well almost deserted. The room consisted of James, Bella, Alec and lots of food. And yes Alec was there you heard right, he wasn't being as flirty as much the past few days and has been just talking and hanging out.

"Sorry if you didn't want Alec here he helped with setting it up so it would be rude to not invite him," Cody whispered to me.

"It's fine for now at least."

"If you need a rescue let me know somehow."

"Of course, now let me at the food." Cody laughed as I basically ran at the food.

"Don't eat too much you do have to try out later," he calls after me. For the rest of lunch we eat and hang out and eat some more but then we have to clean up and go to class before I know it it is the end of the day. As I wait outside for Cody the English teacher Mr. Boluck comes up to me.

"Miss Reid, can I have a word?"

"Sure what can I do for you Mr. Boluck?"

"Well there is a student in my third hour English that Is struggling and out of my classes you are the best, so I was wondering if you would be willing to tutor them if they are willing?"

"Um, I guess so."

"Ok thank you I will let you know more information later." as he walks away Cody walks up.

"What was that about?"

"Oh, nothing."

" Well then are you ready for your tryout?"

"Yes, I am," I say as we walk the distance to his car.

"You got a change of clothes?"

"You bet." I pat my backpack.

"A winning attitude?"

"Obviously." we reach his car.

"Then I think you are ready." He says as he opens the door for me.

"Thank you."

"Anytime princess." He walks around to the other side of the car and hops in and we drive to the practice field in silence. When we get there Cody walks up to the coach.

"Ava is here she is willing to try out if you are still willing to let her."

"Alright, then Cody show her to the girl's locker room and then we can get started."

"Yes, Coach." He leads me over to the building and around to the door that says, women.

"Well, this is where I leave you to change and go change myself if you can handle it from here."

"I think I can dress myself."

"You sure about that?" I slap him on the shoulder.

"Ok if you insist." he smirks and walks away and calls back to me " I'll see you out there princess." I walk into the change room and throw my backpack onto a bench and dig around for my clothes. I pull out a pair of basketball shorts and a T-shirt for my favorite football team, I quickly throw them on and tie my messy hair into a ponytail. I walk out to see Cody waiting for me. When I reach him he whispers in my ear.

"I think your shirt confused its sports." that earns him an elbow to the ribs.

"Ow, why are your elbows so pointy." He says rubbing his chest.

"Let's go you, big baby," I say grabbing his hand as I start to walk back to the field.

"I'm not a baby." He whines in a toddler like voice. I turn to glare at him to see him smirking at me, so I bump my shoulder into his and he lets out a light laugh.

"You're mental."

"Aw thank you." he put his hand to his chest about where his heart would be

"It wasn't a compliment."

"I know." I roll my eyes at him when coach calls him over to talk to him alone for whatever reason he gives me an apologetic look I smile and tell him that I will be fine. While he talks to coach it takes a lot of willpower to not listen in. when he comes back he looks upset.

"What did coach have to say?" I ask

"Nothing important," he says although I know he is lying I don't press for answers. He can tell me if he wants to. That is when Coach called the team over to where he stood.

"Ok today practice will be a little bit different, Instead of the usual work we are going to split into two teams and play a short game to see how Ava here does working with a team." everyone was silent as coach paused "It also means a short practice." with that the team cheered, well all except Cody who looked a little distant. Coach turned to me.

"You ready for this."

"As ready as I'll ever be."
