The Blood of a Wolf

It's a Date

I sign out at the front desk and we head back to the car.

"Father of the year right there."

"Not what you hoped for."

"Being told that I may turn into a wolf forever definitely not." I put the key in the ignition and start back towards Henry's place. By the time we made it back to Henry's, it was about 4:30. I drop the bag of research and then plop onto the couch and Cody sits down next to me.

"So how did things go?" Henry asks emerging from another room.

"Not good my father believes that at some point I will shift into a wolf and never shift back into a human."

"Did he say why he believes that?"

"Something about seeing something in my DNA or blood that was the wolf part and it looking like it would eventually take over the human part."

"That is odd I don't think I have seen anything like that in the blood samples from when you were younger. Would you mind giving a blood sample and maybe I can take a look at it compared to old samples and look through the research and see what I think."

"Sure I'll give you a blood sample but let's do that after supper."

"Of course." later that night after supper and After Henry takes a blood sample I am laying in the bed in the guest room watching videos on my phone when Cody comes in.

"Hey, Cody."

"Hey Princess, are you still up for going out tomorrow and showing me around we can consider it our first date."

"I don't know Cody it would be fun but after meeting my father like that--"

"Well, you are not going to stay here if all you are going to do is sulk about your crazy father saying you might stay a wolf."

"I guess you are right we can go out tomorrow there is a place I would love to take you."

"Good, you should get some rest now."

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight my princess." Cody walks out of the room closing the door behind him.

The next mining I wake up and head down for breakfast which was just being finished cooking.

"Good ava your up I was about to have Cody go get you, and you never told me he was a good cook he helped with breakfast."

"I didn't know he was although he almost made me dinner a week or so ago. What's for breakfast?"

"Bacon, scrambled eggs, fried tomatoes, buttered toast and black pudding whatever that is." Cody states

"That is mom's favorite breakfast."

"And If I remember correctly it is yours as well."

"Yeah, but I mean you came over and made it for us at least once a week and you are an excellent cook." We finish eating Breakfast and then both me and Cody get ready to go out.

Later we are walking down the streets together hand in hand with me pointing out different things about the town when we come to the school I stop.

"This is where it happened. Right in that building, I lost control in front of my classmates giving me and my mum no choice but to leave and move to America."

"It looks like it was a nice school."

"It was. Now onto my favorite spot." we turn to leave but then I hear an all to familiar voice.

"Who do we have here it can't be Ava Reid can it," both me and Cody turn to the voice.

"Hey, Thea long time no see."

"Indeed, I heard you moved to America."

"Yeah after the incident that one day I needed a new start so we moved to America."

"So what are you doing back here."

"I came to meet my father. But if you will excuse us we were just leaving." before Thea can say anything else I pull Cody away. Seeing Thea again and what my father said made me start thinking but I tried to push it away as me and Cody came to my special spot.

"This is it, my favorite spot."

"A group of trees in the middle of a park?"

"Yeah it is like mini woods but what is inside is the best." I pull Cody through the trees and into a small circled area with a giant rock at the center. "I came here all the time because it pleases the wolf side of me."

"It is a lot like the clearing in the woods by your house."

"Yeah it is." sadness clear in my voice as all the thoughts come into my head.

"What's Wrong Ava?"

"It's just what my dad said and then just running Into Thea earlier it has me thinking about things."

"Like what?"

"Mainly about us and how I don't think we can work out."

"Why would you think that?" he sounds shocked that I would say that.

"Well if what my dad says is true one day I could lose control or turn from the full moon and be a wolf forever and then obviously we can't be together if I am a wolf and I don't want you to get hurt when that happens because something could be left unsaid and I don't want that to happen."

"But the thing is we don't even know if what your father said is true he has been locked up in a mental institution for over a decade."

"But it was in his notes from before hen and why wouldn't e be right he was right about everything else."

"Okay so let's say that he is right and you turn into a wolf forever. I will know what happened it is not like you will just disappear on me."

"Yeah, but I will be a wolf and you can't date a wolf."

"Maybe not but I have always wanted a dog."

"Cody!" I smack him but can't help but laugh

"I can feed you, take you for walks, make sure you are all caught up on your shots." he laughs.

"Cody this is serious, stop joking around."

"Alright, I'll be serious. You told me you understand what humans say even when you are a wolf so I could say anything if it is left unsaid."

"But what if I leave something unsaid."

"I can look into your eyes and they will tell me everything I need to know because they are still your beautiful eyes."

"It still won't work."

"Why?"

"It is like having a relationship with someone who is going to die soon. There is no future so why even try."

"Because the two people care about each other a lot and they don't worry about what the future may hold because they are living in the present because you may not be able to change the future but you can do something about what is happening in the present and I want you in my life even if you do become wolf. And if that were to happen I wouldn't want to regret not spending every minute I could with you while you were human."

"You really think that way."

"Yes. So you still want to give this a try," he says motioning between the two of us. I nod my head being unable to say anything I run into his arms and about knock him over. I put my head against his chest as he wraps his arms around me tightly burying his head into my hair.
