Ava's POV

"What do you remember?" Mum asked me as we sit on the couch in the living room as I was supposed to meet Cody in the woods at 6:30 but I don't remember ever going anywhere.

"The last thing I remember is taking more pills about an hour before meeting Cody then getting agitated, but then everything is blank since then."

"Maybe you just fell asleep who knows what those extra pills did to you."

"But I was agitated I can't sleep when I am agitated I have to run or use the workout room."

"Then maybe you used the workout room then came up here and fell asleep."

"No matter what I wouldn't work out in Jeans. But I would go for a run." Me and mum share a look of relief before my face turns into a frightened expression. "I have to text Cody." I grab my phone and scroll through my contacts to Cody's number.

A: Cody did I ever come to the clearing to meet up to study?

I wait and wait but there is no response.

"He must have gone to bed, or turned his phone off, or maybe he is ignoring me," I tell mum who is looking at me expectantly. "What are we going to do?" I add.

"You are going to go to bed and in the morning you are going to text or call Cody or something and figure out what happened."

"What if he saw something?"

"We will have no choice but to move one person here already knows we can't risk more people knowing."

"But we can trust Cody I know it I know he would never tell anyone."

"Sweetie I know what you think about him but it is dangerous for people to know, you know what happened last time with Thea you thought she was your best friend."

"Yes I know but this is different."

"Why because you--"

"Don't say it." I cut her off not wanting to hear what she has to say as I already have an Idea of what it is, I don't think I'm ready to face the facts at least not yet. "I guess the only thing I can do is go to bed and figure things out in the morning." I get up off the couch where sat with my mum and head up to my room.

I took a quick shower and changed into nice pyjamas, I climbed into bed and sit there under the covers looking at the remnants of scratches that were on my arms. What am I going to do what if he saw something, what if I didn't show up and he hates me, I can't leave I really like it here? I have good friends and I am on a team for once, I can't lose this I can't lose him.those are my last thoughts as I drift off to sleep.

The next morning I wake up and look at my phone there is a message and it is from Cody I open it up and begin to read.

C: Sorry I didn't respond I had muted my phone and went to bed. You did come to the clearing but you started not feeling good so you were going to walk yourself home but you tripped and fell I had heard you fall so I went to you. You were unconscious so I carried you back to your house and used your keys from your pocket to get inside. You only had small cuts so after putting you on the couch I left locking the door behind me.

A: Nothing seemed off about me?

C: No you just didn't look in the right mind mainly when you insisted on walking home alone.

A: Okay thank you for carrying me back to my house.

C: Of course, what was I supposed to do leave you in the woods to get eaten by a wild animal. You feeling any better.

A: Yeah a lot It was most likely because of the medicine I took I might have had extra dosage and it affected me in a weird way.

C: So you good to work today we do still have to study

A: I would have to make sure mum thinks I am good enough but I should I'll update you later.

C: Okay

I put my phone down and breath a sigh of relief, then I head down to the kitchen where mum is getting breakfast ready.

"Hey, mum do you think I could go study with Cody today."

"Ava that may not be the best thing today."

"He says he didn't see anything and he told me what happened."

"He texted back."

"Yeah, and he explained it. He said I just had started not feeling good from the extra pills and insisted on walking home myself then I tripped or something and fell he heard and carried me home and put me on the couch."

"How did he get in?"

"He used my keys." She was silent for a while just looking at the food she was cooking. "Please, mum if I meet with him then maybe we can get more details as to what happened and double check if he saw anything."

"What if he is lying and did see something and he has set up a trap."

"I don't think he would be able to set up a trap, I will pick the meeting place where there are not many people around and will be there before the time we agree to meet."

"Okay fine as long as you stick by those terms."

"Thank you and I will be careful," once the food was ready we sat down and ate in silence. I got back to my room later after helping take care of everything and picked up my phone, Cody had already texted.

C: Clearing. Noon o'clock no sooner. be there no questions asked.

A: Okay see you then.

I know I told mum I would pick the spot but I was planning there anyway and if something was off I would be able to tell easily. And of course, I would take precautions I know how to deal with possible traps.

My mum mentioned Thea, she was my best friend back in England I thought I could trust her she knew for a few days before the incident that made us move she knew it was the full moon and didn't warn me. That is why mum is always worried that people know she thinks they will all be like Thea.

Later that day I was walking to the clearing it was a little before noon and I planned it to arrive basically right at noon. When I walked into the clearing right at noon Cody was standing there waiting for me with a smile on his face. Behind him there was what you would say is a typical picnic set up, a red and white checkered blanket, a picnic basket and utensils already set out.

"What is this?"

"A picnic obviously."

"I can see that but why a picnic?"

"Because yesterday I was going to take you to a restaurant but that one is closed on Sundays so I figured why not have a picnic while the weather is still nice." He grabs my hand and leads me over to the blanket and motions for me to sit so I do, he sits next to me and by the basket.

"So what is there to eat?" He smirks as he brings the basket in front of him opening the cover and pulling out a box of pizza, he places the box in the middle of the blanket and opens the box to reveal a meat covered pizza.

"I hope meat lovers is okay with you."

"Better than okay." He gets a piece for each of us before pulling out his book for English.

"Now where were we."
