Chapter Twenty-Six: Knives

After two days of being in the hospital I'm finally allowed to go home. My usually lively apartment is dull and lacking in spirit.

Sebastian complains to me that he is hungry. I make my way to the kitchen and prepare a simple, yet satisfying, peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He reminds me that her likes his sandwichs cut into four triangles, which of course, I already know.

I reach for the knife block but it is empty. I ignore that and move to the next place I would find a knife, the drawer. I search through every drawer in the kitchen, still unable to find a knife.

Pippa walks into the kitchen with a confused look on her face. "What is all that noise coming from?"

"Sorry, I can't find any knives. Not even a butter knife!" Her face switches from confusion to guilt.

"That's because I took them all."

"Where'd you take them to? Can I have one?"

"No, I took them so you can't hurt yourself again. I also took both of our razors."

Not wanting to start a fight in front of Sebastian I cut his sandwich with the side of a fork and turn on paw patrol.

"Can we talk in the bedroom please?" Pippa nods in response and follows me to our room.

I shut the door before continuing the conversation.

"Can you please put all the knives and stuff back Pippa? I know you are trying to help me but everything is fine. I promise." I kiss the top of her head to assure her everything is okay.

"No."

"What do you mean no? Pip, I know you love me but you're being over protective. Instead of worrying about me you should be more focused on helping me find Lynnette." I regret it the second it comes out of my mouth.

"You think I don't care about our missing daughter? I was just trying to make sure I don't lose two of the people I love most in the world! Fuck you Lin. I'm going to Jasmine's."

I try to stop her from leaving but I'm still weak from all the blood loss. She pushes past me with ease. "Pippa wait I'm sorry. That's not what I meant."

"The knives are on the top shelf of the closest if you want them." She hisses before slamming the door shut.

Sebastian pauses his show before turning to me. "Daddy, why is Mommy Pippa sad again."

"I just upset her, she will be okay though."

"You should stop making people who love you mad." He resumes his show without saying another word.

I try calling Pippa but she doesn't answer. If I can't fix what I said Pippa might never forgive me. I call her three more times, no answer.

I search through my contacts for someone who might be able to watch Sebastian. Chris' name sticks out so I give him a call. After I explain the situation he assures me he will be right over.

"Sebastian, uncle Chris is coming over for a little bit while I go out."

Once Chris arrives I thank him and bolt out the door sprinting to my car. The cool winter air has encapsulated my car in a sheet of ice. The door is frozen shut, I can't even get in to defrost it.

I do the only logical thing I can think of, sprint to Jasmine's.

After sprinting across town I bang frantically on the young actresses door. "Lin! Why are you knocking so loud? Did you run here?"

I nod my head in response. Running all the way here was a lot more work than I though it would be. Out of breath I manage to mumble a few words. "P- Pippa- here"

"Are you asking if Pippa is here?"

Again I nod my head.

"She isn't here."

"But-t she-"

"Lin I promise you she isn't here. But it you two are fighting again I'm staying out of it. You two can be viscous when you're mad." She shuts the door before I have a chance to say anything else.

I try calling Pippa again, she doesn't answer. I decide to text her instead.

Lin: Pip, can you please call me back

No response

Lin: I know you aren't at Jasmine's

Pippa: How?

Lin: I ran all the way to her place. My car is frozen in ice.

Pippa: You ran all the way there? Why? You are supposed to be recovering

Lin: Because I love you

Pippa: I'm still mad at you

Lin: Do you still love me?

Pippa: I guess so

Lin: As long as you still love me I'm okay if you're mad at me. Where are you really?

Pippa: I'm at the coffee shop by the theater.

Lin: I should have known. See you soon

I catch a cab to the coffee shop. There is no way in hell I'm running there too. The whole ride there I go over ways to apologize. I don't even know why I said that, of course she wants Lynnette home just as much as I do. Pippa probably wants her back even more than me.

The cab pulls up to my destination, I tip the cab driver well and step slowly out of the vehicle.

I can see Pippa through the window, she is sitting in the back corner on her phone. You wouldn't recognize she was there unless you were looking for her.

I walk inside and cautiously sit down at her table. This causes her to look up at me. Her eyes are red and get cheeks are stained with tears. I did this to her.

"Hey Pip, I'm really really sorry. I didn't mean what I said, it just came out. I shouldn't have put that kind of blame on you. You have no part in it, Rachel was my girlfriend and she kidnapped our daughter because of me. This is more my fault than anyone else's. I'm so sorry Pip." She takes my hand that is on the table into hers as tears roll down my face.

"I know. We need to work together to take the bitch who took our daughter down."
