Chapter 9: Old Wounds Part 2

1 year later 14 year old Jin's POV

Since the day of the accident everything seemed to change, life no longer seemed to matter, with Appa in a coma. Day by day I spent them as if I were on autopilot. The only comfort I had left was martial arts. The familiar pain and work was the only thing I woke up for. I went to school, did what i was supposed to, went to practice and then went home. Min tried to comfort me but I pushed her away until finally she left me alone altogether.

I visited Appa everyday for as long as I could but his condition remained the same. My Appa's brother tried to take me in but I couldn't stand him and his family looking at me with pity, like I was something to be sorry for. I stayed in the apartment that we had and got a job to pay off the rent.

Until one day I was called into the principals office. I walked in to find to find a man sitting down with the principal. "angheyanseo." I said and bowed. The man stood up. "angheyanseo." he said. "My name is Bae, I am the headmaster of a martial arts academy, and you are a very promising student and I would like for you to come and be a student at my academy. it is an academy where students can stay at, there are dorms and I would like for you to come on a scholarship so you wouldn't have to pay for any of it." he said. "I need some time to think about it." I said. "of course, I can give you until tomorrow." he replied. I nodded. "that sounds good." I said and then left for class.

Later that day I went to the hospital. "Appa, there's a man offering me to take me to a martial arts academy, I think I'm going to take his offer... okay." I said but Appa remained quiet. I nodded, I'm glad you understand and don't worry I'm still going to come and visit you. Saranghe Appa, I love you." with that in mind I left. I packed up what little things I had and finally I took a picture off of the wall, it was taken when I was four, Appa was holding me and omma was still alive and she was being hugged by Appa, I smiled that was when I had an actual family.

The next day
Bae was happy to hear that I said yes. That very day, i was taken to his academy. it wasn't a big school but it had a lot of open space. when we entered the through the gates, I saw boys ranging from 12-18 training outside. I was confused. "Umm, headmaster? why are there no girls here?" I asked. He laughed. "because this is an all boys school, silly." he said. I looked at him. "but I'm not a boy." I said. He turned to me and looked at me. Because of the operation I had, the doctors had to cut my hair short and whenever I went to school now, I always wore the boys uniform. The headmaster gasped. "omo omo omo." he said. "this won't do." He sighed. "I suppose I will have to take you back." I thought about all of the people in school giving me looks, I was known as "Jin, the girl who's dad is in a coma, poor thing." I grabbed his hand. "please allow me to stay." I said. "I can prove it to you that even though I'm not a boy, I can still keep up with the rest of them." He sucked in his breath. "let me prove it to you, anyways it's not like you have anything to lose and all to gain." I said. He gave in. "you have one week to prove it to me that you can keep up after that one week then I can decide whether you stay or not." he said. I nodded. "you won't regret it." I said. He then took me to the dorms.

You're going to have to room with Shin for the time being." he said. "not a problem." I answered.

He handed me the key to the room and opened the door. I entered the room and saw blond hair peeking out of bed covers. "Shin!" said headmaster. Shin semi woke up. "whae?" he asked. he rubbed his eyes and looked at me. "what's going on?" he asked. "this is your new roommate, Jin." said the headmaster. "Angheyanseo." I said. "she will be staying here for awhile until further notice." he said. With that he left. I stood there and then I placed my bag on the bed that was across the room. "wait, you're a girl?" he said. I nodded my head. "How did you get in this school?" he asked and he got off of his bed and walked up to me.
