Chapter 39: Aftermath

Jin's POV

I found out the day after from Jinyoung that Sang-Kyu was disqualified and he had automatically won the tournament. He was unsatisfied with the trophy, believing that it belonged to me that he did. SM tried to charge Sang-Kyu with battery and assault but I stopped them before they could, this wasn't going to help him and I thought he already felt guilty enough.

Just to forgive and forget really. Slowly the following weeks my body healed just like before but now whenever it rains, my leg feels stiff and it hurts. They catered to me hand and foot while I was injured, someone was always with me at all times.

SM no longer allowed me to bodyguard Exo because they thought I had done enough already and a little persuasion from the guys went a long way, instead I was given the title of head supervisor.

I laugh at it every time I think of it but I do miss my job. Lay is happy because I won't get hurt anymore. We had a funeral for my father and while I was putting flowers on his tombstone, I really thought the smell of jjajjangmyeon filled the air but no one else could smell it. It was probably him, bidding me a last farewell.

My brothers are the new body guards for EXO but I think they really just took the job to keep an eye on me. It's boring not really being able to do anything anymore but I know if it makes Lay happy then I'm able to live with it. Kyungsoo seems better, I feel like he's finally able to let me go, knowing that lay will take care of me.

We're having a dinner at a fancy restaurant for some reason. Everyone keeps giggling and smiling more than usual when Lay and I are together. I wonder why? "Jin-ah! lets go!" Yelled Kai and Baekhyun. "Coming!"

Lays POV

I breath in and out slowly. I had butterflies in my stomach and I couldn't sit still. "Yah, calm down. You're making me nervous!" yelled Luhan. "Oh, sorry hyung." He just laughed and smiled. "Do you have the ring?" I nodded, pulling it out. "You're a lucky guy, hyung." said Chanyeol. "Ahh, this secret is killing me! lets go ask her now!" exclaimed Sehun.

"No!" we all yelled. He whimpered and made a sad face. "Everything has to be perfect tonight." I said. Suho patted my shoulder. "It will be, so stop worrying." I felt reassure with his words but I still couldn't help it. "Are Baekhyun and Kai keeping Jin busy today?" I asked. "They just took her out right now. They'll keep her busy for a few hours while we get everything ready." said Kris.

"Aish! if you don't calm down, I'll make you fall asleep!" yelled Kyungsoo while glaring at me. "Im going to go take a walk." I said. "Please, just leave." Xiumin pushed me out playfully. "Don't come back until you've relaxed!" he said closing the door shut. I walked on the sidewalk going nowhere in particular.

I remember when I asked her brothers for permission. It was one of the scariest moments of my entire life but I knew they meant well. I'm just happy they did. I looked at the ring one more time. "Just a little longer Yixing, just wait a little longer."

Jin's POV

"Aaahhh, please stop! I'm so tired!" I yelled out. "But we haven't found the shoes to go with your dress!" said Baekhyun. "Come on, one more store!" whined Kai. "I'll even carry you!" He turned around and squatted down. "Come on!" I got on his back and we went to another show store.

I sat down at a chair as they looked through boxes and boxes. I could see them whisper to each other and look at their phones a lot. After another hour had passed, they finally came up to me with a pair of shoes. "These look good, right?" I nodded. "Sure lets get these and go." We left the store and were walking down the sidewalk again. They looked at each other anxiously. "We still need to stall a bit longer." whispered Baekhyun.

"What?" I asked. "Nothing." they said quickly. What was going on? "Before we go, you need to get ready. Get your hair fixed and all that, so yeah." They dragged me along to a hair salon and at me down at a chair. I just looked at the wall as the stylist did her job. Something strange was going on but I didn't know what yet.

"Aah! Yeppeuda!" they both clapped.
I was in the purple dress that Lay had bought me and I had makeup on and my hair was curled. "Now we can go!" they exclaimed.

At the restaurant we all sat down and everyone was talking and laughing but the atmosphere was very anxious and jittery. Lay kept glancing over at me again and again. This was getting very suspicious. After dessert Lay stood up and held up a glass. "Um. I'd like to propose a toast. I'm happy to be friends with all of you and um I hope you all have good health for this following year." He nodded, blushing.

He walked up to me slowly. "Jin?" I looked at him. "I know that you try really hard every day to protect me...us and I'm grateful that I have you in my life but I know you and the fact is that in the beginning you shied away from us because you were afraid to love and get hurt."

"You are strong but you're also very fragile. I just want you to know that for the rest of our days, I want to be the one that protects you, I want to be the one that wipes away your tears. I can't promise you that I won't make you cry but for every tear drop i'll make it up to you a million times more. You are my light at the end of my tunnel.....When I first met you, I thought I had died and gone to heaven but then I realized that I was still alive and that heaven was brought to me."

" I guess what I'm trying to say is...will you marry me?" he got down on one knee and opened up a small box that had a ring inside. I gasped jumping up. He stood up, his face red. "Will you?" I wrapped my arms around my neck and brought my lips to his ear.

"Yes."
