~{Y/N}'s POV~
"...did your daughter just kiss my son...?" I turned to Matt, cocking an eyebrow in disbelief.
Matt laughed in a mix of anxiety and pride, causing Mello to grab a hold of my hand. "D-don't worry, {Y/N}, they're kids..." Matt said, and I shrugged.
"I'm not mad," I denied, even though I knew I was a little pissed off. Mello squeezed my hand tighter, trying to calm me down, and it made me realize that I didn't even know why I was pissed off.
"Please calm down," Mello begged, whispering so Matt couldn't hear.
"Calm down?! She just kissed my son! She's known him for like, two days!"
"I-it's just a kiss, {Y/N}..." Matt shyly mumbled, and I looked at him with fire and fury.
"You stay out of this, Mail Jeevas, or so help me God..."
Matt looked at me with a fear in his eyes that I hadn't seen since we were kids. Yes, the boys had always been afraid of me, but as we got older, the fear went from Oh-God-She's-Gonna-Kill-Me to Jesus-Christ-She-Will-Torture-Me-Slowly.
I sighed, taking my free hand to run through my hair. "I'm goin' for a walk..." I muttered, letting go of Mello's hand. He turned to watch me leave, but didn't follow me.
~Mello's POV~
As {Y/N} walked away, I turned back to Matt, who looked somehow apologetic. "Don't worry, you know how she is," I said, reading his expression.
"It's different from when we were kids, Mel, this is her baby we're talking about." He argued, and I sighed.
"Lawliet's gotta grow up. He's gonna fall in love, have sex, drink, maybe even kill a man along the way. {Y/N}'s still got the baby-mama complex in her mind, so she's not happy that it's this soon, but she's gonna eventually realize that it's inevitable."
"...she's gonna kill me, isn't she?" he asked, and I cracked a smile.
"Probably."
"Why aren't you mad?"
"Because I know you're already feeling dejected about Myra, and what father feels angry when their son gets to score with a girl?" I chuckled.
Matt laughed and lightly punched my shoulder. "Shut up, man,"
"Seriously, though, is it bugging you?"
"Is what bugging me?" Matt questioned.
"Myra," I answered, "Y'know, not having a relationship with her. I know you never really wanted kids, but..."
"It bugs me," He said almost immediately. "God, it almost hurts, but... I wouldn't take my choice back for the world."
I saw the fatherly glint in Matt's eyes and smiled, placing an arm around his shoulders. "Listen, Matty, you know... she's still your girl."
"Mells, I never got to be a Dad," he muttered. "She probably hates me."
I glanced at Matt, and I knew exactly what he was feeling because I had felt it, too. With us being in MU and Lawliet being down on Earth, I was always questioning whether he hated me or not. After all, we did leave him to pull off a dangerous mission halfway across the world, so it was more surprising that he didn't hate us.
"She doesn't hate you, Mail," I assured.
"How do you know?" he challenged.
I softened when I saw tears slip down Matt's face. He cared about Myra, that much was evident, but he just wanted to show her that fatherly love. The act he'd put on about not caring was complete bullshit, it was obvious. Maybe part of it was because we'd grown up without parents, or maybe it wasn't that at all, but one thing was clear: He loved Myra more than anything else.
