Chapter 5Margoe's POV
" Manong! Dito nalang po!" Ngumiti ako sakanya. Ngumiti din ito pabalik sakin. It was a fake smile. I just brought few clothes, sabi nila they'll offer clothes for the servants.
Controlling my emotion is the golden rule I have to follow in this estate. School I suppose. For the rest of my senior high semester, I am willing to have a scholarship in this school. It was light when I arrive, and a beautiful sun was gilding everything around me. I felt a little cold, my clothes were grubby, but my, soul was rejoicing.
I noticed this bookshop cause they say that it specializes in occult studies. It has never advertised in newspapers or magazines, and the people who go there do so on the recommendation of others. The owner is glad to have such a select, specialist clientele. Even so, the bookshop is always full.
From then on, whenever I could , I would go there to look at the books, but I never brought any because they were all imported and very expensive. I would leaf through them, studying the designs and symbols in some of the books, and intuitively tuning in to the vibration of all that accumulated knowledge.
Books were safer. The shelves contained reprints of treatises written hundreds of years ago. Maliban sa pagpunta ko dito sa bookstore ay may ibang rason din ako-----to observe the other customers. Sometimes I would pretend to read some respectable alchemical treatise, when I was, in fact, scrutinizing the men and women, usually older than me, who frequented the shop and who knew what they wanted and always went to the right shelf. Some looked very wise, capable of awakening forces and magics of which mere normal person knew nothing.
I noticed, too, that the most regular costumers always had a word with the owner. It reminds me of a peculiar dream of mine about a month ago....
FLASHBACK~~~~
"You're pathetic! So sinong walang puso dito Martha?!"
"Wag mo lang damayin yung pamilya ko dito Emily--" Emily stopped her in the mid of her sentence.
"How dare you interrupt me!" Shouted Emily. " You'd better buck your ideas up, Wench!"
"Mommm!!
"Oppss?! Who do you think i am? Maid that can follow your pathetic orders? You are nothing but a waste!
"Oh my God..Mere? Bethel? Wla silang kinalaman dito kung kaya't pakawalan nyo sila Emily!." Shouted Martha.
Natigilan ako ng may tumogtug na musika. Nakakatakot ang tono nito. Funeral bells?
