Chapter 40
"Wait, let me fix your tie..." Said Vasilka. We're heading now to the venue for our Prom and I know she's been telling me a lot that she really dream to attend this ball.
She's been so beautiful. All day, waking up in the morning sunshine, sleeping at the tug of her comforter, undeniably, she's pretty. Angle to angle, you can see an angel, smiling, wearing a gorgeous dress that matches my tie.
"Ready?" I asked.
"Yes." She gave me her hand.
We're neighbors since then that makes me know her more. Cries, shouts, punches, can be heard, in their house that is filled with the presence her father gave them. Both of them. Her mother and Vasilka.
I've seriously have a crush on her, her innermost, outmost filled with a summer smile. Never ending, just it shines.
We've been living in the same roof for two years already.
"Dear, why don't you tour Hezekiah around the garden?" Mommy ordered me. It was a tradition since mommy thought of bringing the De Luca family for every fine dine we'll have.
Hezekiah touch my shoulders when no one's around.
"Sphinx..."
"Please, stop...I don't want to hear anything that'll come out inside of your mouth." I said.
"But sphy..."
"Shut up." I demanded.
"No...Please...I love you...and your family needs us also right? We can work with this. There's enough money you can gain when you'll accept our proposal. Besides, your parents likes our current relationship."
"Relationship? Are you out of your mind, Hezekiah?! Yes, you're my friend but there's a barrier between that. You will not and never be my wife. Remember that." I glared.
"No..." she shakes her head. "No!"
"Accept it. You can't control everything. We won't work out. But we can, in a different way. Not like this."
"You..." she trailed off."You like someone?"
"Heck, I do!" I shouted. "I left her for this...your dad, he threatened me. Your dad will kill her if I'll refuse in our marriage. Now, she's lost, and nothing to hold on. If only I know how to protect her, I can. But this is a serious matter! There's a dozens of armed guys near her and I have dozens guarding her also! I don't know what your dad thinks and I'm afraid he'll press the trigger too early."
She laughed mockingly. "What if I, myself, will pull the trigger when we just pretended this all along? I only agreed to this because I know this will help you love me. But no. You've already fell head over heels to that bitch."
I smirked. "You have no difference with your father. No wonder no man loved you? Shame on you. Don't you dare fuss her in that kind of name when basically the devil speaks her own kind of judgement in herself?"
"I know you can't resist me, Sphy..." she said seductively but when I hear it, disgust flashed in my face.
"Yes, I can. You're not my Vasilka and will never be. You're not even 1/4 of her. She's beautiful as she could be."
"You're talking nonsense..."
"Oh, stop it. Accept it, okay? Don't push my buttons. I still have patience, so please, don't change it to anger. You're not like this, Hezekiah. You're better than this. Act with your conscience. Because if you will not, you'll be extinguish in a deep, deep pain. Karma is a bitch. And it's the fault of yours to earn such."
It turned out to be opposite of what I really want. I catch Hezekiah in my own eyes, peeling her face forcefully. Luckily, I jolted my hands and immediately wrapped it against her.
"I'm ugly...I'm ugly." Those are the words she have been saying for days until a doctor came to see her and treated her.
Calling the guard I assigned to watch over at Vasilka, I heard footstep meters away from my office so I immediately turn the call off.
The door slightly opened as I saw Hezekiah's younger sister, Cynwise.
"Yes?" I asked her. We only have two years gap that makes her look like we're in the same age.
"Can I talk to you for a sec?" She commend.
"Sure," I simply said.
"What is it?" I asked when she fully entered the room.
"Hezekiah...You've been friends for a long time right? Close friends, even." She started.
"Yes. And?"
"I..." She avoided our contact. "S-she's been sick for few days. And you already knew w-why."
"It's just normal."
She looked at me, teary eyed. "No. She screamed at me, shouting your name or Vasilka. I'm afraid if she'll become like that, always. She looked at me, with evident discomfiture."
"What is it that you want?" I change the topic, since I get the reason why her presence is here.
"C-can you please...marry Hezekiah? Sir? I'll do things my dad and Sister Hezekiah did. Just...marry her." She kneeled down while caressing my shiny shoes.
"Why so eager, little one?" I gently said, lifting up her face, filled with eyes full of sorrows, sadness overall. But it didn't end as it supposed to be. Someone entered the room with full force, it was Hezekiah.
"You like my sister? Is that it? Is that why you make me agree with your proposal to act facedly in front of our parents like we're a real couple so that my sister will be jealous and confess her heartwarming feelings to you?!" She concluded.
"S-sister---"Cynwise didn't finish by the huge impact that her sister, Hezekiah slapped her.
"Enough, Hezekiah." I said coldly, helping Cynwise on the ground, crying.
She faked a laugh. "Ha! You cheated on me! You cheated! I hate you! So much! I hope you'll die and rot in hell---" She ghastly slump in the floor.
Things have gotten so bad after that incident. It became more and more superficial as what I predicted. The both siblings didn't have good terms with each other. Sometimes, I saw Hezekiah slapping her sister in the face a couple of times when her sister spilled some coffee in her dress.
She often drag her by the hair or tell her by name of the girl I loved, Vasilka.
"Die, Vasilka! Die!" She shouted at Cynwise.
Time passed and her treatment to her sister become worst. So I had to do everything to stop her without hurting them both. Bringing Hezekiah to the doctor's.
Hezekiah spent almost one month in the Mental hospital until she recovered. When she went home in our house, she hugged her sister in a long hug in me also. Everything when smoothly that week. Hezekiah finally open to others with some family business or social gathering. She has been doing fine. And I am proud of her for that.
But things don't stay. It changes.
"Vasilka, s-she was pushed by her f-father in the third floor of their h-house...She's in a critical condition right now that might have affected her brain." I tried to subdue my tears, but it didn't.
