"Jeon Jungkook!"
Said male cackled as he dodged your punch, running down the hallway with a smile on his face. You, on the other hand, were fuming, a red tint to your cheeks as you chased after him.
"You should've seen your face!" Jungkok exclaimed, barely missing a girl that was walking in the opposite direction, yelling a quick apology before he continued on.
"I'm sure yours will look even better when my fist makes contact with it." The students in the hall didn't even look bothered as the two of made your way down the linoleum, instead parting ways so they wouldn't get bowled over, all too used to the squabbling.
"You have to catch me first," Jungkook taunted, throwing a wink over his shoulder before he sped around the corner. Letting out a growl of frustration, you pushed yourself forward with a burst of speed.
Unfortunately, Jungkook's legs were longer than yours, so by the time you turned the corner, he was nowhere to be seen. Just as you were about to let out a long line of expletives, your phone beeped, telling you that it was time for class. You felt like slamming your head against a wall, both agitated that Jungkook had gotten away (again) and upset that class had to start so you couldn't even go look for him. With a sigh, you just walked to the applied math building, intent on finding Jungkook later to deliver a well-deserved punch to the arm. It's the least you could do. After all, it seemed like a fitting punishment for the mess of candy, glitter, and stuffed animals that greeted you when you stepped out of your dorm that morning.
When lunch time rolled around, you were still annoyed, but it had toned down in the last few hours. That didn't mean that when you saw Jungkook laughing with his friends as he purchased his food that you were happy, though - quite the opposite.
"Woah, calm down, Hayeon. The meat doesn't deserve to be stabbed like that," your best friend, Haewon, chided.
You shot her a sharp glare, to which she responded with an arched eyebrow. Huffing, you started eating your food instead, grumbling about certain people and how mean they were.
"I'm not mean, just rational," Haewon stated.
"But you know why I'm so upset!" you cried, annoyance slowly seeping back into your body just thinking about a certain dark-haired, cat-eyed male.
"Yes, but I also know that you're not as angry as you make yourself out to be."
You put a hand over her mouth before she could say any more, side-eying the people that were sitting within hearing distance. You could see her eyes soften and turned away, not wanting to see the look of pity you knew you would find. "It's fine," you muttered. "He makes me happy, so it's okay."
"But you aren't making yourself happy by pretending to hate each other," Haewon pointed out once she gently pried your hand off, twining your fingers together afterwards.
Shrugging, you looked over to Jungkook's table, lips hitching at the corners when you saw him busting a rib laughing at something that Yoongi said.
"Like I said," you started, "it's okay. It's kind of fun, anyways, making a competition out of who can rile up the other one faster."
Haewon shook her head in disbelief, but smiled nonetheless. You knew that she didn't really understand, but it was okay - you and Jungkook did and that's all that mattered. You both needed fun in your lives, and if this was the only way to get it, then you would take it.
Even after you yelled at him later in class because he kept poking you with his pencil, you both sent secret smiles towards each other.
Even when you tripped him as he walked over the threshold of the door and complained about how you dirtied his brand new shoes, you just rolled your eyes and said, "Buy new ones, you rich prick. We both know you can afford it."
