April's POV
December 28, 2017
My eyes flickered open to a snowy windowsill followed by a loud bang. "Sorry!" My roommate, Kate screams from the other room. "Trying to make breakfast?" I run out of my room to see all the pots and pans scattered amongst the hard wood floor.
Laughing, Kate nods her head and I help her off the floor. "This is what happens when I wake up earlier than you," she says and pours two cups of hot chocolate.
I watched the snow beautifully fall, covering our little backyard. There had to be about an inch or two more from when I last had a peek.
"At least you remembered the chocolate syrup," I raise an eyebrow and she playfully rolls her eyes.
Kate and I met sophomore year of high school when she transferred to my campus and saw me sitting alone because of the bad reputation I gave to myself from the prior year.
Her and I then had a few harsh moments but shared a bond like no other.
"So, it's uh, the end of 2017..." her voice trails off which catches my attention, I pick up the last pot and place it cautiously in the cupboard.
"Yes, 3 days left, what's up?" I ask taking a seat across from her in our pathetic dining area; we really should get a new kitchen table. "Would you want to go to a party? I was invited last night- Matthew's friend-"
"A New Years Eve party?" I swiftly say before she finished. "Yeah, wanna come?"
"Would I want to go to your boyfriend's mates party? I have 2 nights to sleep on it- not even if you keep waking me up with those pots and pans." I joke and she laughs sipping her hot chocolate as the oven obnoxiously beeps.
"What an awful chime,"
"Muffins are ready!" Kate says and my eyes widen. "They better be chocolate chip!"
Shawn's POV
December 30, 2017
I watched her eyes meet mine every so often; there's a story written out in those emerald orbs and I want to dive into her mystery. I'm sat at the other end of the table, she was sitting across from Kate who is Matt's girlfriend.
What was her name again?
"Son of a bitch!" Small fists collide with the table top and everyone turns her way. "Why do they still bother you?" Kate asks, as she makes a face at the girl's step brother, Jack, who uses to be my best friend.
"Because I still live here, because he's my step brother and because they absolutely love to mention the bets; thinking it still effects me." Her voice cracks and she looks over in my direction but I turn the other way.
"But maybe if I don't approach them like they're dreaming I would, then maybe they'll move onto some other innocent girl." She replies back to her friend. "April, you still want to come tomorrow night?"
That was her name, April. How did I forget?
June 26, 2016
"Shawn, this is April, my roommate." Kate says and a petite girl comes out from behind my best friends girlfriend.
Her thin but shiny brown hair was braided messily to the side and her eyes locked with mine. "April, what a lovely name, I'm Shawn." I introduced myself and her eyes scrunch into the biggest smile.
What beautiful green eyes she has.
She chuckles and nods, "I know who you are," her voice was soft and in a way calming.
"You're like a really good singer, not my music type though." She smiles pointing out then looks down at my guitar.
"I have a new album coming out soon,"
"Kate is always listening and talking about you and your music- I thought she was just some fan girl- I'll admit some songs get stuck in my head a little too much." She bites her lip trying to not laugh from what I assume was a pun she's been waiting to say for a while now.
We were in this crowded airport but still, I feel like it's just her and I. "Well, April, who I wouldn't think your name was April because you don't look like that typical girl who's called April, you're a funny girl."
"Yeah, I know. Pshh. I don't have the luscious blonde pigtails and bows at the end of my hair with beautiful eyes to match-"
"You're better," I cut her off and watch her cheeks redden.
"April, let's get going," Kate says which breaks this moment. "Oh yeah, cmon, Shawn." She smiles taking one of my bags off the floor and walks away with Kate, leaving me stood here, alone with many thoughts running through my mind.
"Dude, there's gonna be beer and chicks, it's New Years Eve," Matt wakes me up from my thoughts and I chuckle. "Cmon Mendes, get your hands a little dirty, 2017 is finally over." Brian adds and I nod.
I had such a great year, the tour, the awards and my fans. 2017 was something great.
Well, maybe not for everyone.
April looks my way and half smiles before leaving the table. I looked over to Kate who was wrapping her and her roommates food into those take out containers. "And there goes April, ruining the mood, like always." Brian mutters and Kate rolls her eyes and opens her mouth to say something but then shakes her head and walks to the front of the diner to pay for the two meals.
Why is this always happening to her?
