April's POV
We walked into Shawn's place holding hands. I was shivering and just wanted to go to bed. I soon knew that wasn't going to happen when Shawn started shuffling his favorite Spotify playlist and said he owed me a nice cup of hot chocolate.
I already fell asleep on the car ride here, the university was father away from Toronto than I thought.
"Thanks for not killing Jack," I say breaking the silence. Shawn turns the lights on in his kitchen and I sit on the counter top.
"Why do you care about him so much? April, you let everything he does to you go, he bullies you." Shawn was concerned, I couldn't get the image of that two faced bitch Isabel out of my head.
Jack defended her and not me.
"He's family." I replied and Shawn rolls his eyes and shrugs, taking out marshmallows from the pantry. Him and I both know Jack is not and will never be my family. "You're beautiful and strong and shouldn't take his shit. Imagine how everything would have been if you just-"
"Shawn, you see me always stick up for myself. Nothing just goes my way. He might be a total dick and you know I'm a handful as it is but I don't want to ever stoop down to his level." I look up at him, he nods his head and turns the other way, running his fingers through his gorgeous hair.
"I always try to understand and relate back to what you go through, I'm kind of a self absorbed ass, I don't want you to feel like this. I sit at home every night wishing you were right here with me. Away from our town's drama and problems. I still can't believe my parents live there. I'm glad I moved out."
"How are your parents, we usually are only talking about my silliness. I want to know your story, outside of your success as an artist. I know that story a little too well."
"Remember when you told me you weren't into 'that kind of music'? Babe, I saw you listening to Twenty One Pilots. You even have a Jack and Jack poster up." He says and my heart stops, he just called me babe.
"Jack J follows me," I proudly say, he hands me the hot chocolate and playfully rolls his eyes. "Okay how many Jack's do I know now?" I joke to myself, I don't think Shawn was listening. "I remember when I first got Vine famous, my family was a mess." I raise an eyebrow and wait for him to continue.
"My parents were going to divorce, I could tell. I always told my younger sister I'd make them fall back in love, I released my first single and it changed everything." He finishes.
"My mom's a hairdresser. She actually owns the salon. Tells all her old lady clients about my internship for the profession of my dreams as she goes home to Jack's dad every night. I love him but dislike his entire family, including Jack. My father moved back to America, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, New York and he started a new family. I'm way closer with them because my step brother, Jack. He's an ass. I love all the little babies and all the Italian food. One day I pray if I start a family I'll be an amazing mother with a loving husband, never living in a broken home." I tell Shawn, he's always so interested in me, the real me and not the April everyone tells him about.
That's been running through my head all week, he's so different. He finds me so different.
"Broken boy meets broken girl." He says and I smile, knowing those song lyrics.
We clink our mugs together and I taste the hot chocolate. "This is so fucking good. You're a hot chocolate God." I tell him and he laughs, sipping his beverage.
"Why is everything you do so perfect?" I say looking into his sparkling eyes. "That's all you," Shawn moves closer to me, I was still on the counter and wrapped my legs around his waist, he compliments the color of my eyes.
We were just about to kiss when both of our phones rang. "Fuck." I say opening my eyes, Shawn smirks chuckling and grabs his phone. "Talking about last night, I was joking about the groupies texting me and you not being allowed on my phone. I thought it would make you want me more- holy fuck." Shawn looks up from his phone and his eyes widen.
He hands me his phone and I got a little nervous. "Instagram stories? Who posts on Instagram stories?" I say viewing a video of Shawn and I scream at Jack and Isabel.
I was new at Instagram but cmon, I know this was all for attention.
Shawn had a red solo cup in his hand and I looked like I was ready to swing. "It felt good backhanding that bitch, now I'm about to kill her." My voice is deep and cracking.
I'm nervous for Shawn, he was just standing there, sipping his hot chocolate trying not to laugh. "You ass! You don't care about this do you?" I jump off the counter and run to Shawn.
He sets his mug down and I shake my head tackling him. "My fans like you, they remembered you from August and see you protecting me over here."
"So? I'm still 'Pickering's biggest slut'. Everyone hates me here." I say air quoting the reputation I was given. Shawn shrugs picking me up, our faces were close and I put my legs around his waist again. "I don't care, when I'm with you everything is different. I don't need anybody else. The way you make me feel is so much more important than all that bullshit anyone has to say."
"Shawn, they captioned the post 'beauty and the beast.' You're beauty, I'm the beast." I say. Shawn was still holding me, we were getting lost in each other's eyes.
I was always insecure about what people thought of me although I didn't show that. I never gave into all the hate, the bullying and the drama. And now that I think about it: why should I now?
My phone chimes again, and then again and again and again. I giggled, embarrassed and dug my head into Shawn's neck. "You're actually really strong," I say as he puts me down.
I open my text messages and look up at the gorgeous boy stood in front of me. "So my cousin is 15 and-"
"Fan girl?" He asks and I chuckle. "I told her months ago the next time I would see you I'd get her a video for her fan account. She's got thousands of followers. How did she discover that Instagram story already?"
"My fans are insane. I should follow her," Shawn bites his lip and I cover my mouth. "I'm not going to say anything because it'll ruin it. I already see her sobbing on FaceTime already." I look up at him. "I kinda feel bad, you're her idol. She thinks you're absolutely flawless- I mean you are but I'm over here literally falling for you and she's in her bed crying over the fact her older cousin is living her dream."
"You're falling for me?" Was all Shawn said, I scrunched my face and felt my cheeks heat up. "Shawn," I look up at him and start hysterically laughing. "April, you're so fucking amazing." He says and I run back over to him, jumping into his arms; still laughing as I pressed my lips to his.
And with that, we were in his bedroom. His hand reaches for mine and they interlock as we kiss tentatively, passionately and then, tenderly. He pulls the thick woollen sweater up, over my head and I feel the little sparks of static dancing over my skin. I'm not sure whether they're from my sweater or if they're from where his hands gently skimmed my skin; either way, it's a magical feeling. "April, what are we doing?" He licks his lips, waiting for me to respond.
I trace his lip lightly with the tip of my finger. It pouts slightly, and I have such an urge to bite it, to kiss it but I just stood there smiling. "This." I say moments later, sitting up and softly kissing him.
