I sighed, recalling my dilemma from earlier today and turned to the clock on my kitchen wall. It was only ten past 7 and I was exhausted.
"Remind me to never drink during the day, especially with Shawn and Brian." I sprawl my legs out on the couch, across from Kate in my flannel pjs and college hoodie, flipping through the channels on TV as she's taking Snapchat selfies.
"Matt's pissed off," Kate looks at me and I wait for her to continue. "I don't know, April. I just- I didn't even do anything and-" tears formed in her dark blue eyes and I shot up and brought her into my arms.
I know they hung out together today, they're usually so happy around each other. I can't imagine what happened, the love they have for each other is so pure and amazing to witness.
"Kate, you know he loves you, whatever happened he'll get over, all boys are like that." I tell her and she digs her head into my shoulder.
I hug her for a couple moments longer, thinking back to every time we are in this situation. It's either her shoulder I'm crying on or she's in need of mine. "Do you want me to talk to him? You know he literally lives across from my parents' house, that's how I found Shawn's place today." I say and she sighs, trying to catch her breath.
Seeing Kate like this, looking into her broken blue eyes makes me want to kill everyone who's ever hurt her. "Let's wait until tomorrow, the new semester party on campus. Didn't you invite Shawn too?" She says in between breaths, I look at her closely to make sure she's okay.
"Alright, Matt's gonna feel sorry once he sees how hot you look," I wink and she giggles, finally, as she wipes her last tears.
"Come here," I say and hug my best friend tightly. "Kate, everything will be okay." I say and she nods, hugging me back.

"You really think they're gonna be here?" I look around this empty frat house and then over to Matt and Brian. Brian rolls his eyes and Matt looks down. "Give it 20 minutes, we're early. The whole university will be here, trust me." Brian says walking over to some girls who were calling his name.
"Alright, we won't see Brian until tomorrow morning, let's go wait for Kate."
"And April, she's still coming... Right?" I ask him looking down at my most recent tattoo. I traced the whole Swallow and it's details inked on my skin, waiting for Matt to answer.
I looked sternly up at him until I noticed his attention was on the entryway.
Both April and Kate walk through the door, pushing past everyone who stopped and turned their way. "Beautiful," Matt whispers looking at his girlfriend.
Kate takes her jacket off to reveal her top and my buddy asks me if he should go over there and apologize. April looks around and smiles, they both look at us and turn the other way; moving along to meet up with their girl friends.
The way she walked, I was starstruck; I ignored all the games, the blasting music and the already intoxicated college kids. All I want to do is look at this girl who's really turning my world around.
And I'm definitely seeing her true colors now, as she stares back at me, licking her lips and smirking. I think back to all the stories I was told and the stories she's told me.
I remember the one time I kissed her, the other time I almost beat Mark up for trying to take advantage of her and I cant help but reminisce all the great times I had with her when she smiled and joked around; like last night. Before I ruined it for her.
"Where's my hot chocolate?" April asks, running her small fingers through her long fairly dark, dirty blonde hair.
"It's at my place, where we should be. Talking about what happened last night." I respond as a drunk couple bumps into us, trying to get to a bedroom upstairs, making out and all.
April laughs, telling me the kid was in her financial literacy class. "Why are you taking that? Aren't you an intern at a dentist?" I ask, remembering how cute she looked in those blue scrubs.
"Orthodontist." The red strobe light catches the green in her eyes as she smiles and my cheeks flush. "I'm sorry I was a bit of a dick, I couldn't control myself last night." I admit leaning against the wall, she laughs taking my arm off the wall so I can stand up straight, not looking like a douche as she just said.
I guess there's more to University than I know.
"They're still fighting," I nod my head over to Kate and Matt, Kate looks like she's about to burst into tears and Matt's going to walk off.
"I feel awful, do you know what happened? I asked her and every time she just cried in my arms. I'm concerned, Shawn." She looks up at me and frowns, I wish I could help them.
I shake my head, looking down into her beautiful eyes and she sighs. "Can we get out of this place now? Everyone's trying to talk to me- ouch! What the fuck!" I blink as some girl shoves April out of the way.
I look at April and she rolls her eyes. "Why'd you do that?" I ask the red haired girl, she was obviously drunk and strangely recognized me. "You're Shawn Mendes, right?" She slurs and April bites her lip trying not to laugh. "Yeah that's me-"
"Wow you're so hot," this drunk bitch puts her hand on my chest and pulls at my shirt. "Sorry, darling, I'm kinda with someone right now." I take back my shirt out of her grasp and pull her off of me.
"Who?" She makes and face and I look back at April, her jaw was tightening and she scoffs. "Me," she turns the girl around and red head rolls her eyes laughing. "Why would Shawn want to be with a skank like you? April just leave- you've slept with every guy here- Shawn doesn't want you."
April chuckles, tilting her head into a smirk, "if you don't walk away in 3 seconds I promise there will be a problem. I'm the biggest slut, everyone listens to me." She replies crossing her arms.
The red head looks at me, shrugging April off. "I'm sorry, are you mute? Are you too drunk to understand? Leave him and I alone." April steps in front of me, she was tiny so I saw right over her head, the drunken ginger is bringing a crowd with her now.
"April, just push her out of the way." I casually say, taking her hand into mine. "No, this bitch is gonna learn her lesson. I'm tired of this always happening to me."
"Isabel, fuck off. We get it, you're looking for someone to dick you down. Shawn's not going to do that at. He has something you lack, class." April snaps back at her and my eyes widen, everyone watching laughs and waits for the red head, Isabel to continue.
I didn't like this, this will not be good for me. But I didn't care, I'll let April tear up my reputation.
