"What the hell, why didn't you tell me you dropped out of school Ebony Renee. You were supposed to finish, now what are you going to do."

I had just walked into my grandma room in the hospital to visit her because I missed her. Now here she is chewing me out about school. How did she even know I dropped out?

"HELLO snap the fuck out of it and explain to me why the hell you dropped out of school."

"Cause school wasn't paying bills. School wasn't supporting us, how did you know I dropped out anyways." I sighed.

I was mad I dropped out too. School was always my main priority. People hated school but I actually loved it. I always planned to go far away to another school to get the fuck away from Memphis, but here I am "stuck."

"I called the school and asked them about your progress and they told me you dropped out months ago. Months ago and you were sitting in my face like everything was cool and telling me that school was going good and I told you don't worry about the bills. I'll handle that." She stated.

"How, how are you going to handle it and you're in a hospital bed fighting for your life Grandma. These doctor bills ain't doing nothing but adding up. I had to do what I had to do and I didn't tell you because I knew you'll be disappointed and I never want to disappoint you." I stated honestly.

My Grandma was the only person who could make me feel bad about the decisions I make. She is the only person who opinion of me matters. I never wanted to disappoint her but I had to drop out to figure out a way I was going to pay all these bills up.

"Ebony you'll never disappoint me. You made it farther than anybody in our family. I just really wanted you to graduate. You only had a few more months left. I just wanted to see you graduate, but I'm happy with whatever you decide to do." She smiled.

"Ima get my GED and ima go to college. I promise, but right now my only priority is to make sure your straight and to help you fight this cancer." I kissed her cheek.

I haven't thought about if I lose my grandma. I mean it crossed my mind several times but I hate to think about it. My grandma is the only family I have. She took me in and she didn't have to. I really appreciate her for everything. I pray that these doctors are doing everything they can.

Because I can't lose her! She the only person I got. I have no friends. No mommy. No daddy. Just me and her.

"I supposed to be taking care of you, not the other way around." She smiled.

"I know but don't worry about it, after all these years you deserve for me to take care of you. I love you so much." I smiled and hugged her.

"I love you too Eb, but don't ever lie to me again, I want you to go back and get your GED and I want you to go to college." She stated kissing my forehead.
