Luke
"You're ordering a salad at McDonald's?" I teased my girlfriend, Amanda.
"Yeah," She replied slowly, "What's wrong with that?"
"Well, you don't just order a salad at a place that only sells junk food." I explained, "That's like the rules of feminism."
She shook her head, laughing.
"I've never met a guy who quotes the movie Mean Girls," She giggled and kissed my cheek, "You're really something, Luke."
"I know."
---
Amanda and I were walking hand in hand, down the street, planning to have a walk around town.
It was going well so far, now I'd just had to wait for my special guest arrive.
And that's the part where Amanda's gonna hate me for.
"You're too quiet, Luke," She sighed and leaned into me, "Something wrong?"
"No, I'm just admiring the beauty, that's all." I said and smiled.
"Yeah, me too. This town is gorgeous."
"No, Mandy. I meant you." I squeezed her hand as pink rose up to her cheeks.
"Oh." She said, embarrased. "I love you."
"And I, you." I replied happily.
I won't be happy when Amanda sees Eysia anymore.
Okay, I've got to stop stressing over this. She'll be fine.
Out of the blue, I felt her hands grasp on my arm, her knuckles whitening.
"Oh my God. Luke!" She shook me, her face as if she'd seen a ghost,
"I j-just saw Elysia.."
I had to play along.
"Are you sure that's her..?"
"Yes, Luke. I know what my twin looks like." She snapped.
"Oh no, she's looking. Shit. Luke hide me." She buried her face under my coat, and tried to hide from Elysia.
"She's coming over baby." I reassured her, patting her back.
"No! NO, Luke. Please," She tried to push me to get me to move but I stayed frozen, "I don't want to see her, can we go? Like now?"
"Too late, sis."

Elysia
"H-Hey Manda," I say as I take a step closer to her. She's still in Luke's arms, shaking.
No matter what, she just can't face me.
"Mandy? I-It's me, Leesh, I just-" I begin my way to an apology, but Amanda suddenly turns around and stops me.
"How dare you, Elysia. How fucking dare you come back here?" She pushes me and I fall back onto the bench behind me, and my breathing hitches.
"Mandy, please listen, I-I met up with Luke a few days ago and we talked about you and I," I say each word clearly, "I have nowhere to live, Mandy, I don't have any other clothes other than this old shirt and shorts, my boyfriend who was supposed to marry me hates me and kicked me out of his house, because I wouldn't have sex with him, and Mum," I stop, to take a breath, and also to see her reaction, "Mum don't give any shits." I finish, and look up at my sister, who's still ever so flawless.
It had always been like this, me being envy of her kindness and her mesmorizing features. She's like an angel from above and I'm a homeless mean bitch with no money. Even though we look the same, we all know who's the better twin.
Amanda's arms are crossed, as she looks from Luke to me.
"You knew about this?" I watch silently as she screams at Luke.
"Y-Yes, but babe, I didn't want to tell you-"
"Why, Luke? Why the fuck didn't you tell me? Is it because you two are secretly fuck buddies behind my back? How long has this been going on? I don't believe you, Luke," Amanda shakes her head, then walks a few steps away from Luke, muttering to herself. "And to think I've loved you.."
I don't think Luke was supposed to hear that, but he did. I still didn't say anything as his face changed from worried to hurt, and possibly heartbroken. He glares me forcefully and begins to try and get on Mandy's good side, but I beat him to it.
"No, Mandy. Please," I say, trying to calm her down. We're making a big scene and people walking past are staring. "There is nothing going on between me and Luke. There will never be anything. The past is the past, Mandy, isn't that what you've always told me?"
"I miss my sister like crazy," I say softly, looking straight at Manda, "I just want my bestfriend back."
Her face turns from red to pale, and Luke puts a hand on her back, trying to keep her from exploding.
That's why they make such a great couple.
With small gestures and movements, they still steady each other without knowing it.
"Do you expect some fucking sympathy?" She raises her voice and it cracks halfway. "I'm sure your boyfriend kicked you out, and I'm sure that you're homeless. Go run along, and far away from me, b-because I don't think I have time for this girl in front of me that I don't even know anymore."
I feel myself getting heated as I say back to her,
"I didn't expect sympathy, I'm just trying to make things okay again. You can kick me away from you, and I can live on the streets for the rest of my life if you'd like, but that the end of the day, you'll always be my sister. " I breathe in, "If this is what I get for trying.." My voice trail off, and I walk off, leaving my sister and Luke behind again.
A sob escapes from me, and before I know it, I'm crying. Mascara's running down my cheeks, and my breathing's uneven.
But that's nothing compared to what just happened.
I'm about to lose my sister forever.
"Wait!" A too familiar voice calls out, and I turn around, just to be crushed by someone's hug.
Mandy.
The smile on my lips is permanent, and I can't stop smiling.
"Welcome home, sis." She whispers, while tears roll down one by one.
With Amanda still hugging me, I see Luke standing awkardly behind us.
I look up at him and shot him a grateful look, and he smiles back.
It feels like home again, and they are my family,
Because after everything, they still have my back.
That's what family is all about.
