"I'd like to introduce our newest member, Blaine Anderson."
Mr. Schue's words had been replaying in Rachel's head all week.
There was something about Blaine that was so... familiar. He wasn't shy about contributing to glee club, and he was very friendly. His voice was one of the strongest male voices in glee club, and his talent didn't go unnoticed by Rachel.
In fact, he reminded Rachel of herself.
"Blaine!"
Blaine turned around. "Oh, hey, Rachel."
"Hey." Rachel smiled as she walked over to Blaine. "How was your first week at McKinley?"
"It's not Dalton, but I really like it here." Blaine answered. "The kids in glee are awesome and everyone is so accepting in the choir room."
Rachel smiled. "That's so good to hear. As co-captains, Finn and I always make sure our new members feel like a part of the team."
Blaine nodded.
"Which is why I'd like to invite you over to my house." Rachel said. "Aside from your audition, you haven't really performed with us yet, and I wanna help you find the perfect song."
"That sounds great." Blaine smiled. "Thank you, Rachel. I'll be there."
"See you at 8!" Rachel chirped as she walked away.
-
Rachel greeted Blaine with a big smile when he arrived at 8. He was exactly on time, which she liked. She had become used to Finn running late or forgetting about plans, so Blaine being on time was a welcome change.
"I'm so glad you're here!" Rachel exclaimed as she let Blaine inside.
"Me too." Blaine smiled. "I've been looking at sheet music all day."
"So have I." Rachel nodded. "Let's go to my room. I'll show you what I have."
The pair went upstairs to Rachel's room and sat on her bed.
"So what'd you come up with?" Blaine wondered. "I was thinking something Broadway or Katy Perry."
Rachel nodded slowly. "Actually, I wanted to talk to you about other things first. You haven't talked about yourself much, so what is there to know about Blaine Anderson?"
"Not much." Blaine responded. "I live with my parents. My older brother, Cooper, moved to L.A. last year. What about you?"
"You met my dads when they picked me up from school the other day, remember?" Rachel asked.
Blaine nodded. "What else is there to know about Rachel Berry?"
Rachel rolled her eyes. "I was born in December, and my birthmother lives in New York."
"No way, I was born in December, too." Blaine smiled. "December 18th."
"Me, too." Rachel replied. "1994."
Blaine laughed lightly. "Me, too."
"This can't be a coincidence." Rachel stated as she looked at Blaine. "I mean, we have the same birthday and we're both incredibly talented."
"Must be a December 18th thing." Blaine shrugged.
Rachel shook her head. "No. This is too weird."
Blaine stared at Rachel. He was confused and she was making him uncomfortable.
Rachel gave Blaine a look as she studied his face.
Blaine stood up. "I-I'm gonna go. I'll see you in glee club."
-
Blaine wouldn't talk to Rachel. He kept avoiding her. And it didn't help that Shelby hadn't answered any of Rachel's calls or texts over the past three days either.
"Blaine, you have the floor."
Blaine stood in front of the room and smiled at his friends. "Hi, everybody. I prepared a little something for today, so here goes."
The music began and Blaine began to sing.
Rachel was interrupted by her phone ringing. She glanced at the screen and quickly ran out of the room to answer Shelby's call.
"Shelby, hi. Thanks for finally calling me."
"Sorry, Rachel. I've been busy." Shelby apologized. "Are Puck and Quinn okay?"
"Puck and Quinn are fine. This is about something else." Rachel responded. "We have a new guy in glee club."
"Is he cute?" Shelby wondered.
"I'm still dating Finn." Rachel reminded Shelby. "Anyway, we're so much alike and we share the same birthday and-"
"Rachel, I have to go." Shelby cut the brunette off. "I'll call you later, okay?"
"Okay."
-
Shelby didn't call Rachel back that night. Still, Rachel kept waiting.
On Saturday, Rachel went to the Lima Bean to meet with Blaine.
"Why'd you ask me to meet you here?" Blaine wondered.
"I wanted to apologize for making you uncomfortable." Rachel said. "I'm sorry."
Blaine nodded. "I wasn't really sure why you were giving me those weird looks, so I forgive you."
"I thought you and I were twins." Rachel admitted. "But you weren't adopted, so we can't be."
Blaine smiled with amusement. "Twins? Imagine that."
"I still think you're really talented." Rachel clarified. "Even though you're not my brother."
Blaine laughed as the pair sat down together. "Thank you. I think you're really talented, too."
"Rachel."
Rachel turned around to see Shelby standing behind her. She got up and hugged her. "Shelby, what are you doing here? Where's Beth?"
"Quinn and Puck are spending the day with her." Shelby informed Rachel as she looked at Blaine. "You must be Blaine."
