The next day was Friday, and my brother and sister were at school, and my dad was at work. My mom stayed home with me today, and babied me. She painted my nails, curled my hair, and cooked all my favorite foods.
I sat in bed, reading my favorite book, Twilight, when my brother and sister got home from school. I hurriedly got out of bed and made my way downstairs, I was so tired of being in the house.
"Hey Jasmine, let's go shopping," I said walking into the living room where her and my mom sat.
"Did I say you could leave the house?" Asked my mom, looking up from the work folder she was looking at.
"Come on mom, please?" I begged. "I go back to school on Monday, and I need new clothes that fit."
"Okay, I'm coming with you."
"No mom!" Jasmine all but screamed. "I can take care of her. We're good."
"Uhm, I'm older than you," I told Jasmine.
"Okay. Keep an eye on her," My mom said ignoring me.
I rolled my eyes, and walked upstairs to get ready.
Going into the bathroom, I took a quick shower, and blow dried my hair before moving towards my closet and began to look for clothes. Finally deciding on a pair of white short shorts, that were once too small on me, but fit nicely now, a sky blue layered blouse from American Apparel, silver strap sandals, and a multi-colored scarf since my body still ran a little cold. I parted my hair down the middle and pulled the sides up with diamond hair pins. Once I was finished dressing, I coated my lips with a soft pink lip gloss, and made my way downstairs to meet Jasmine, who was sitting in the living room texting on her iPhone.
"Ready," I said slapping her on her jean clad thigh.
"Hey!" Jas whined, scowling at me, and stood up, putting her phone in her back right pocket. "Go and get the keys from mom, I have the card. I'll be waiting outside."
I nodded and made my way into the study where my mom was looking over manila folders.
"Hey, we're about to leave. We need the keys," I said holding my hand out. My mom had been holding my keys hostage ever since I was diagnosed, saying she didn't want me driving anywhere in my condition.
Exactly how long did she plan on keeping them, because as far as I was concerned I wasn't ever going to be able to drive my baby again?
"Uh," My mom said biting her lip and patted her pockets looking for the keys. "Here." She said as she held them out to me.
"Thanks," I said reaching for them.
She kept them just out of my reach.
"I want you back at this house by nine, no later. Spend however much you need, just don't go overboard like last time," she said with a grimace, and I smiled, remembering the last little shopping spree me and Jas went on with her and dad's credit cards. Though you really couldn't call it little at all!
"No problem," I said taking the keys.
"And Sah'nai," I turned around. "If you start to feel sick tell Jasmine, and come right home," mom finished with a frown, and her eyes tight, the crows feet around her eyes more pronounced, like they always were when she was worried.
"I will," I promised.
Walking out of the study and into the living room, I turned to see Jasmine still texting on her phone.
