As meowth would say: That's right. The lavender haired villain himself, James. Before I can rant on why James is one of the besties characters I'd like to go in more depth on his character. Is that alright with you?

Let's start with Jame's childhood, Shall we?
This anime-exclusive character development happens in the episode the treasure is all mine! It explains that as a child he was in a rich family and he developed a crush on a girl name during jessibelle who looks exactly like Jessie. He writes her a confession letter and she receives it Andy becomes infsctuwted with James, creeping him out. James now has a berothed and his families and hers agreeing they Shall Be wed in the future. James flees to Team Rocket leaving behind his only friend and companion Growlithe.
