I remember the baseball cap

The uneasy stares from new schoolmates

The fateful bump dropping my books

And the first time we made eye contact

I remember the class

The strong waft of charcoal and chalk

The dropped pencil that you helped pick up

And the first time we shared a smile

I remember the rain

The cars that let us get through

The dim streetlights lighting the way

And the shirt thrown over my head

I remember the waterfall

The fishes that nipped on my feet

The shivers from the cold water

And that unexpected splash of water

I remember the mountain

The rocks that litter the mountain

The insects that bit me at every chance

And the split second eye contact

I remember the night

The crickets that sang their song

The howling of the wind in my ears

And the silence that we shared

I remember the morning

The big room that 5 of us cramped in

The roll of my eyeball to your spot

And how quickly you looked away

..

I remember.. The airport.

The.. silent stomping of heels and shoes

The loudness of my muted goodbye

And my last heartbeat when you finally turned around.

You've never looked back since.
