"I would never leave you Clara."
Shawn's words were on a spinning wheel inside my head, I pictured how his plump lips spoke the words and how his lazy eye somehow sparked up at the sound of my name.
The sun was starting to set and like every last Sunday of the month, I would climb to the highest point I could find and watch the sun set. It was a tradition my mother and I did for as long as I could remember and I was adamant to hold onto it; to eventually share this moment with my own children. Shawn was out with his manager discussing his music, he had begged me to to go with him but the idea of sitting at a conference table for hours wasn't exactly my ideal Sunday night in. I tucked some fly away strands of hair that had escaped my messy bun behind my ear and continued to watch the miracle before me. That's what my mum called it, the miracle, how the sun rose and set everyday like clockwork.
"Clara?"
My legs were dangling in the infinity pool with one of Shawn's old magcon hoodies on, a pair of black booty shorts on underneath.
I turned my neck to look over my shoulder and saw Shawn walking through the glass doors, removing his jacket in the most sexiest way possible.
"What are you doing out here? You'll catch a cold." Shawn said putting his jacket around my shoulders before squatting next to me making sure not to get to close to the waters edge.
"Watch." I simply stated as I continued to gaze upon the miracle.
I felt Shawn's eyes remain on me for a few moments longer before he looked out to the distance.
"What am I looking for?" He giggled next to me as he stretched out his legs behind my back.
It was then that I decided to share my little piece of mother with Shawn, my little bit of hope I was investing in to him. Shawn listened contently as I described every tiny detail, the same exact way my mother told me the story about the miracle. The sun had no disappeared behind the many buildings of Toronto city to go on to be someone else's miracle, Shawn's gently humming being the only noise I could hear other than the trickles of water that occasionally splashed up my leg.
"So that's your miracle?" Shawn asked.
I turned to him and nodded my head as a smile took over my face.
"One of them." I quietly spoke and turned back to the horizon.
"One of them?" Shawn repeated. "How many do you have?" He slightly chuckled.
"Just two." I smiled.
"So what's the second one."
My heart started to beat a little faster, my toes rubbing against each other as I thought about the words stuck in my throat.
"Your my miracle Shawn." I whispered, my hands gripping on to the edge of the pool.
I slowly looked out the corner of my eye before following my gaze with my head to look directly at Shawn.
"Funny." He smiled at me, then at the horizon.
"I was going to say that was my miracle."
Shawn smiled and it's like his are infectious, the smallest smile on his lips could instantly create a world of happiness.
"The truth is Clara, I wasn't looking for love when I found you. But I'm so fucking glad i did." His hand gently placed over mine, interlocking our fingers as our eyes were fixed on one another.
"I'm sorry about before." I admitted. I could see Shawn start to make a reply but I instantly cut him off. "No, please. The truth is I know what I want now and whether that's here..." I looked at the pool and made a small splash with my feet. "...in there..." I nodded at the house. "I can honestly say that I love you right now and want you right now."
My heart skipped a beat as I felt it jump up into my throat, the silence burning my ears.
