Cyrus's POV: 5 Months Ago...
"Cyrus?" my mom shouts from the other room. "Can you come here?"
I put down my phone, and walk to the living room. "Yeah?" I see my mom and step dad with very concerned looks on their faces.
"Cyrus." my mom says. "Uhh. You know that we love you no matter what, right?"
"Yeah, I know. What are you trying to tell me?"
"Are you gay?"
I gasp for a split second. "Wh-what makes you think that?"
"It's just you've shown signs of it. You always talk about Jonah. You read a lot of stories that are based around LGBT relationships, and you--"
I interrupt her. "I am, mom. I'm gay."
My stepdad steps forward and gives me a hug. "Thank you for being honest with us."
"You should start packing." mom states. "It's your dad's turn to watch you."
"Got it. Thank you for being supportive about this."
"Of course, son. We love you."
———
I was lying on the couch, having a text conversation with Jonah. My dad walks into the room. "Cyrus, dinner's ready."
He looks over and takes my phone. "Jonah Beck, huh? Let's see what you've been texting about."
I try to grab my phone back, but to no avail. "Dad! That's private! Give me back my phone!"
"You're not hiding anything from me, are you? Cause I wouldn't like having a son keeping secrets from me."
Great. This is how he finds out the truth.
"'Thanks again for supporting me, Cyrus. Honestly, I wasn't sure if anyone was going to accept me being bi.' 'Trust me, Jonah. As someone who is gay, I know what this feels like. I support you, and I'm glad you support me."
My dad tossed my phone back. "So. You're gay, huh?"
I quietly nod. He turns away. "Pack your bags. Get out of my house. I'm very disappointed in you."
"For being gay?"
"Yes. Now get out of my damn house!"
Tear flood down my face. I walk to my room to pack up. Not before saying in a fit of anger, "This is why mom divorced you."
———
I was glad my mom and step dad still loved me. It made me happier when they claimed full custody of me. And then, Andi asked me how my parents reacted to me being gay.
"It wasn't exactly a coming out. More like a finding out. When your parents are mental health experts, they tend to pick up signs that something's up. They knew I was gay, and confronted me about it. Luckily, they still love me." I tell them.
Technically, I'm not lying to them. My dad and step mom aren't my parents anymore.
———
Jonah, Tyson, and I all finished out hang at the Spoon. I gotta admit. It was fun. Jonah showed almost no signs of jealousy, and Tyson was the same as always. Kind, and sweet.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Tyson said as he kissed me.
"Bye." I said back.
Jonah and I are neighbors, and we started walking home. "Oh sweet." Jonah shouted, looking at his phone. "Andi just texted. Amber's throwing a party on Saturday. The three of us should go."
"I suppose we could. Where should we meet?"
"My house. I don't think you and Tyson know where Amber lives."
I wasn't listening. A person in the distance caught my eye. Memories of the past flooded back, as he scowled at me. "Cy, you there?"
I just bolted afterwards. I couldn't bear to see him again. Not after what he did. I made my way to a park bench, and started to sob.
Jonah sat next to me. "Cyrus, what's wrong?"
"It's my dad." I say, with tears flooding down my face. "I just saw him."
