Chapter nine, The camping trip

~Momoko's P.O.V~

after two hours of driving we were finally on the campgrounds. "finally!", kaoru said from the back seat. "hhmmm?", miyako mumbled. "were here", boomer whispered. miyako had been asleep for the past half hour. i drove further down a dirt road until we found the perfect spot. it was wide open space and down over the hill was a lake. i parked my car and every one got out. every one stretched as they looked around. "this is great!", kaoru said. "yeah finally butch had a good idea", brick said. "I'm full of plenty good ideas", butch said. i opened the trunk of my car and brick pulled out all of the tents. "so lets set up camp", butch said as he walked over and claimed his spot. "girls on the right boys on the left?", kaoru asked. "sure", boomer said. butch set his dark green tent up and brick set his red tent up in the middle and boomer set his dark blue tent up on the other side of brick's tent. kaoru set her light green tent up across from butch's tent. i set my pink tent up across from brick's and miyako set her light blue tent up across from boomer's tent. we each carried our bags to our tents and set up our sleeping bags. there was already some logs around a fire pit from the last campers so we sat on there logs after we finished unpacking. butch took a big breath of fresh air. "perfect right?", butch said with a smile. "we should get some fire wood before it gets dark", boomer said. "yeah or we will have to use polvi to start the fire", butch joked. boomer's eyes went wide. "no way!", boomer said. "yeah butch i heard skateboards start better fires", brick said defending boomer. "you have it all wrong my friend hats are great to start fires", butch said, "or bows". "touch that bow and ill throw you in the lake!", brick said sternly. kaoru laughed. "alright guys lets just go get some wood before you guys start killing each other", i said. "ha you said get some wood!", butch said as he laughed. "real mature butch", kaoru said. "oh baby you know it", butch joked. kaoru rolled her eyes at him. "come one momoko lets go find some kindling to start the fire", kaoru said, "miyako you coming?". "sure", miyako said. "well were going to find some logs to use for tonight and stuff", butch said. "alright see you in a little bit", i said to brick as i stood up. "just stay away from the water okay?", brick said. "i will", i said. we walked our separate ways. once us girls were in the woods kaoru asked, "why does he want you to stay away from the water?". "last night before we fell asleep he told me about his dream", i said, "we were swimming in the ocean and this wave hit us and pulled us apart and under the water and i ended up drowning and he couldn't save me". "he is really that worried?", kaoru asked. "duh he came over to my house in the middle of the night to make sure i was okay", i said. "yeah i guess he really cares about you", kaoru said. "well i think its sweet that he cares that much", miyako said. "but if he cared so much why didn't he leave after making sure you were okay? why did you guys end up almost naked in your bed together? are you sure he isn't just lying so he can get more intimate with you?", kaoru said. "no kaoru i told him to stay and i started it. i pushed him on my bed and kissed him first", i said. "you?", kaoru said. "yes me!", i said. "wasn't you afraid your parents would come home early?", miyako asked. "no for the whole three hours all i could think about was brick's lips on mine. i had no time to worry about them", i said. "three hours!?", kaoru said shocked. "we really lost track of time", i said. "how are you going to hide that hickey from your parents?", miyako asked. "lots and lots of makeup", i said. "good luck with that", kaoru said as she laughed. we all stopped and bent down to pick up small sticks and leaves for the fire. once our arms was full and we couldn't carry and more we started to walk back to our camp site. "wasn't you afraid things would be awkward for you guys after you have pretty much seen each other almost naked?", kaoru asked. "no the only awkward part was when you guys showed up", i said, "you have no idea how awkward it felt just being in a robe in front of other guys". "i thought you we going to kill butch this morning", miyako said to kaoru. "he was staring at my best friend's ass of course i was mad he shouldn't do that to her!", kaoru said, "even brick shouldn't!". i smiled and rolled my eyes. "brick can do what he wants", i said. "I'm surprised brick didn't punch butch for it", miyako said. "I'm just glad brick helped me out this morning instead of just sitting back and watching", i said. "yeah that's true", miyako said as we stepped back into the clearing. brick and his brothers were setting down some small logs next to the fire pit. we walked over and set our small sticks and leaves on the ground. "well that's done so why don't we go fishing?", butch asked. "sure", kaoru said as she smiled. "then after that we can go canoeing", butch said. "iv never been canoeing before", miyako said. "well there's a first time for every thing right?", boomer said as he smiled. we all grabbed our fishing poles and tackle boxes and started to walk down to the lake. once we at the lake we quickly set up our poles. except for miyako because she refused to touch the worms. so boomer set her pole up for her. after we all had our lines cast out we sat on the big rocks that was on the shore. i looked at the water. small waves from the current crashed into the shore. you could see tiny fish swimming in the shallow part. it was so beautiful. it looked like a painting. "this is so nice", kaoru said as she stretched her arms and legs. "what fishing?", i asked. "no. being away from it all you know? like not having to worry about being a hero. its like were on vacation or some thing", kaoru said. "yeah your right. its nice getting a break. from being a hero and well a break from family. i like when its just us", i said. "you mean just you and brick right?", kaoru said as she smiled. "well i like that to but i meant all of us together with out worrying about the city", i said. "yeah its nice to get away from  Shou. he can get so annoying", kaoru said. "i know what you mean.", i said. shou is kaoru's little brother. he is kuriko's age. he is a nice boy but he can be a brat at times. "i bet its nice getting away from kuriko to huh?", kaoru asked. "ehh i don't know she isn't that bad any more. i really think we bonded over the ken thing", i said. "what did she tell you?", miyako asked. "she said they didn't even kiss that long. only like ten seconds then we walked in and ruined it", i said. "at least she wasn't pissed about us ruining there moment", brick said. "yeah", miyako said. "you know some times i feel bad. i kinda feel like she turned out to be a jerk because of me", i said. "why?", butch asked. "because we used to spend time together all the time. then hen i became a puff we just drifted and i didn't have time anymore", i said. "would you rather that she knew you was a puff?", brick asked. "hell no! no way! i'd feel even worse. i don't want her to know. it would probably make things awkward. she would probably be so mad that i didn't tell her. or she would be jealous because she waned to be a hero to", i said. "yeah shou would be pissed if he knew. but i bet the brat wouldn't ambush me any more", kaoru said. "yeah but one day your going to miss it", i said. "yeah i guess", kaoru said. "you know i would give any thing to have a brother or sister", miyako said. "ehh you don't need a brother or sister you have us", kaoru said as she smiled. "you know if we would of never been hit with those white z rays we would of never been friends", i said. "nah i sure we would of met", kaoru said. "yeah right", miyako said. "yeah kaoru you was the sporty one who always hung out with sports people. so why would you ever want to hang out with miyako the popular fashionista and the nerdy comic book girl that always talked about being a super hero.", i said. "yeah i guess if either one of you tried to talk to me i would of probably just walk away.", kaoru said. "i guess we was forced into this friendship", miyako said. "I'm glad we was though", i said. "yeah i don't know what id do with out you guys no.", kaoru said. "you guys are my best friends and i don't ever want that to change", i said. "yeah you two are like my sisters. id do any thing for you guys.", miyako said. kaoru and i both smiled. "woooooo!", butch yelled as he jumped up. all of us jumped startled by butch. "i got one!", butch yelled as he yanked his pole and started to real in the fish he had just caught. "nice way to ruin a moment butch", brick said. "well the fish wasn't going to wait!", butch said. after a few seconds butch finished reeling in his fish. butch held it up and smiled. "looks like me and my girl are going to be eating good tonight.", butch said as he smiled. "your crazy if you think I'm going to eat that", kaoru said. "what!?", butch said shocked. "you don't know where the hell that fish has been and plus this lake is gross", kaoru said. "you have got to be kidding me", butch said. "no I'm not", kaoru said as she crossed her arms. "picky picky picky", butch said as he shook his head. "hey don't worry about it. i brought food", i said. "you did?", kaoru asked. "yeah hot dogs and things to make s'mores", i said. "go figure. of course she would bring hot dogs there her favorite food", kaoru said. "and plus there easy to cook over a fire", i said. butch took the fish off the hook and held it in his hand. "well mister fish its your lucky day. looks like your not going to get eaten", butch said. "ohh just put the fish back before it drowns!", kaoru said. "uhh you mean suffocate?", miyako said. "yeah whatever", kaoru said. "come on kaoru give the fish a kiss!", butch said as he shoved the fish into kaoru's face. "damn it butch!", kaoru said as she leaned back away from the fish and swatted it away with her hands. "sorry mister fish. don't take it personally. she is always like that", butch said as he laughed. "butch just throw the fish back. the poor little guys is probably scared out of his mind!", boomer said. "alright alright!", butch said as he knelled down. butch set the fish in the water and the fish quickly swam away. "so looks like I'm winning so far", butch said. "winning?", brick said. "yeah iv caught one fish and you guys have caught none!", butch said as he smirked. brick rolled his eyes and looked back out to the water. "its not a competition butch", boomer said. "you guys are just afraid of losing!", butch said. "not really", boomer said. "then lets make a bet!", butch said. "butch no! this is our time off. lets just relax and enjoy this time. lets not waste it fighting with each other", kaoru said. "yeah kaoru is right", boomer said. "ahh whatever", butch said. butch put another worm on his hook and cast his line out into the water and sat down to wait to catch another fish. after about an hour or two we decided to give up on fishing since no one caught any thing after butch's fish. we all walked to our tents and set our poles up against a tree. "so who is ready for some canoeing?", butch asked as he clapped his hands together. "i cant wait!", miyako said as she smiled. "its a fifteen minute walk", butch said. "that's not that bad", i said. "and the nature trail is the path to the rental place so miyako and boomer will like that", butch said. "i hope we get to see bunnies!", miyako said as she smiled. "alright butch lead the way", boomer said. we all began walking in the direction of the rental place. kaoru and butch walked side by side in front of brick and i. brick and i walked side by side in front of miyako and boomer. kaoru and butch walked close together but only enough that there arms would some times touch each others. brick put his arm around my waist as we walked. miyako and boomer held hands as they walked. none of us talked for the first five minutes of our walk. every one was silent until boomer broke the silence. "look miyako! there is a bunny!", boomer said as he pointed ahead of us. in the middle of the trail sat a tiny gray rabbit. "aw boomie look how cute he is!", miyako said excitedly. "yeah boomie look at him!", butch said jokingly in a girly voice. "oh shut up butch!", boomer said sternly. once the rabbit noticed us he quickly hopped away. "cant you two get along for five minutes!?", brick asked. "no", butch said. "maybe you need to back off of him!", brick said sternly. "hey guys lets just drop it. remember were here to have fun. not bicker and fight", i said. "your right", brick said. "well ill bicker as much as i--", butch started to say. "shut up butch", kaoru said interrupting butch. "fine", butch said as he crossed his arms. "you know i am really glad we can all spend time together", miyako said. "yeah it is nice not having to worry about new townsville. I'm glad we get this time off to spend with each other", i said. "we spend every day together", kaoru said. "true but at least this is sort of a vacation", brick said. "yeah i guess so", kaoru said. after that every one was silent again. i looked up into the sky. birds flied in the air or landed on tree branches. the green leaves looked beautiful. even the dead leaves on the ground looked beautiful. it really made this a picture perfect moment. suddenly miyako caught my attention. i could hear her humming a song. the song was falling fast by avril lavigne. i smiled as i recognized the song. "I woke up and saw the sun today. you came by without a warning. you put a smile on my face. I want that for every morning", i sang as i looked back at miyako and smiled. "what is it I'm feeling?. 'Cause I can't let it go. If seeing is believing. then I already know", miyako and i sang. "I'm falling fast. I hope this lasts. I'm falling hard for you. I say Let's take a chance. take it while we can. I know you feel it too", i sang as i looked into bricks crimson eyes. "I'm falling fast. I'm falling fast", miyako sang. "It doesn't matter what we do. you make everything seem brighter. I never knew I needed you. like a sad song needs a sea of lighters", brick and i sang. brick singing took me by surprise. i never heard him sing before. i didn't even know he knew this song. "What is it I'm feeling?. 'Cause I can't let it go. if seeing is believing. I already know", brick sang as i smiled at him. "I'm falling fast God. I hope this lasts. 'Cause I'm falling hard for you. I know you feel it too. I'm falling fast. I'm falling fast", miyako, brick, and i sang. "what the hell is this glee?", butch said laughingly. "hey shut up they was good", kaoru said. "so why don't you sing?", butch asked. "i sing. just not in front of people.", kaoru said. "wow brick i had no idea you knew that song", i said as i smiled. "yeah i heard it on the radio the other day. it reminded me of you", brick said as he blushed. i smiled and blushed to. "you sang beautifully miyako", boomer said as he smiled. "thank you boomie", miyako said then giggled. "hey guys i think i see the end of the path", butch said. "finally", boomer said. "i cant wait to get in a canoe!", kaoru said excitedly. "i just hope it doesn't flip over", brick said with a worried expression. he must be worried about the dream he had. "don't worry bricky. it will be okay", i said as i smiled. "i hope so", brick said. "come on guys lets race!", butch blurted then took off running. "hey!", kaoru yelled as she took off running to. brick and i laughed as we let each other go and ran after kaoru and butch. miyako and boomer were trailing right behind us. i kept running trying to catch up to kaoru and butch but they was already to far ahead of me. i ran right out of the nature trail path and onto a small beach area. a shack with canoes around it was near the lakes shore. we kept running until we was about 10 feet away from the shack. "haha i won!", butch said as he smiled. "no you didn't! i did!", kaoru said. "no!", butch said sternly. "guys calm down it was a tie!", i huffed. "whatever", butch said. once we all caught our breath we walked the rest of the way to the shack. a tall muscular man maybe a few years older than me stood behind the counter of the shack. he had dark black hair and blue eyes. he wore a grey tank top that really showed off his muscles. he looked up at us and smiled. "well hello. I'm akinari", the man said as he smiled at me. "uh hi. my friends and i want to rent a few canoes", i said. "have you ever canoed before?", akinari asked. "uh no this is my first time actually", i said. "well for a pretty girl like you i can offer you a deal. ill teach you for free", akinari said as he winked at me. brick quickly but his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him. "i think my boyfriend and i can figure it out our selves!", i said sternly. "aw come on", akinari said as he smirked. "look man you need to back off!", brick said angrily. "please we just need three canoes", i said. "fine canoe rental is $20 per canoe", akinari said. every one pulled out there wallets and pulled out a $10 bill. we all handed akinari our money. "canoes are over there. have them back before nightfall", akinari said. we quickly walked over to the canoes. kaoru and butch went to the dark green one. miyako and boomer went to the dark blue one. brick and i went to the red one. brick and i pushed our to the shore. "get in", brick said. i quickly got in and sat down. brick gave the canoe a hard push then jumped in just in time. brick quickly sat don't as the canoe started to drift away from the shore. i picked up 2 paddles and handed one paddle to brick. "so you ever been canoeing?", i asked. "nope", brick said as he smiled. "well i guess we will figure this out together then wont we", i said as i smiled. "that's the way life should be", brick as as he smiled. i smiled back and nodded my head. brick and i began to paddle but we only managed to make our selves drift further onto the lake spinning in circles. "i don't think were doing this right", i said as i laughed. brick laughed to and used his paddle to splash me with water. "hey!", i whined. i used my paddle to splash water back at brick. brick laughed as he tried to shield himself from the water. "take that!", i said as i smiled. "we better stop before we tip the boat", brick said as he laughed. "brick i know you. your going to splash me as soon as i turn around!", i said as i smiled. "fine! fine! truce", brick said as he laughed. i laughed to. "you know me so well", brick said as he smiled. "your my best friend brick", i said as i blushed. "and your mine", brick said as he smiled. "id come back there and kiss you but I'm afraid to move from this spot because the boat will tip", i said as i smiled. "well we don't want that", brick said then smiled again. after about half an hour brick and i finally managed to learn how to make the canoe go straight instead of spinning in circles. i noticed miyako and boomer was about twenty feet ahead of us. earlier they were having the same trouble with paddling. but they eventually figured it out just like brick and i. kaoru and butch was no where to be seen. they had no trouble at all. i wonder where they went?
