A/n- congratulations Dunkirk!! For 8 Oscar nominations!! ❤️
Dotty stayed sat on a boat for the most part of a day, her arse freezing as the bench was like ice, her hair all over the place, and her phone battery was dead. So far she hadn't had to do anything other than sit and wait, her father not needing her assistance. Fionn, Harry, Aneurin and extras were in the water, floating with the use of life jackets, waiting for Chris to instruct them.
Fionn spotted Dotty watching the group of men and waved at her, poking his tongue out, sea water getting onto his rogue causing him to cringe at the sour taste. Dotty giggled, waving back at him whilst brushing the loose fly away hairs out of her face. The boat rocked slightly as the guy holding a camera moved, and blocked the young woman's view of the scene. She sighed, waving her hands like a madwoman, glaring in his direction. Dotty was about to stand up when a woman she had never scene before stopped her. "No. You stay put. You are already in the way."
Dotty frowned but did as she was told. She sat like a child who had just been told off by a teacher, her lips sealed, and her hands beneath her rear end. The scene was being rehearsed but Dotty kept looking at her legs. Her eyes traced the patterns in the jeans she was wearing, where the colour faded slightly, or darkened. She didn't realise how long she was staring until bodies clambered onto the boat, wrapping towels around them, whilst they stopped for lunch. "Dorothy." Harry nodded, taking a can of his corned beef and jar of Branston Pickle from his bag he kept on the boat.
"Harold." She replied quietly, looking up. "You alright?"
"I'm good, what about you? You look quite flushed." Replied Harry, as he spread some pickle on a slab of corned beef, passing into to Fionn. Dotty's cheeks were rosy, a mix of the cold air and the embarrassment of being told she was in the way.
She nodded in response, and looked over the area the boat was anchored in. There were screens around them and other things. It seemed so surreal being on a movie set, despite her father being a director, it still hadn't quite sunk in that she was helping on a set of a movie. The day wasn't cold, rather hot actually, but the sea breeze wasn't. She wanted to just sit in shorts and a t-shirt in the town, soaking in the sun, but she wouldn't swap this opportunity for the world.
Fionn confusedly took the corned beef and pickle from Harry, thanking him in a questioning tone. "Try it, you'll like it." He encouraged and Fionn wearily took a bite. He grinned as he swallowed the food, "see, what did I say? Do either of you want some?" He turned to Aneurin and Dotty.
"I'm okay thank you." Replied the woman.
"Go on then, you've tickled my fancy." Said Aneurin.
As the boys indulged in their lunch Dotty climbed from the boat onto the pier like, pontoon and travelled down it until she was at the far end where nobody was at. She sat on the edge and stared out into the distance, breathing in the salty, sea air and relaxing.
Christopher noticed his daughter sitting off alone and not with the lads she had become close friends with. He was glad she did, that was one of the reasons he offered her the job, in hope that she would find friendship in some decent people who wouldn't just take her for granted much like Anna and her other so called friends. He hated seeing his daughter be so kind and doing anything for anyone who simply couldn't care if she died, they only wanted to be her friend when it suited them and it irritated him that she didn't see it. That's thing with Dotty, she can be so oblivious, and only sees the good in people. She's never been any different, Anna so blatantly only wants her for someone to cry on and blame for her issues. In school it got to the point where Dotty would do her homework and if Anna hadn't done hers she would do it for her or give Anna hers and take a detention instead of Anna getting one. Did the girl thank Dotty? No she did not.
Chris excused himself from his conversation with a crew member and made his way towards his daughter. He slowly got down and sat beside her, pulling her into him. "Is Everything okay?" He asked her.
She nodded, "Why?"
"Just asking, you looked down today. Sweetheart, this guy you're texting, he isn't acting funny is he?"
"No! I dunno, I just can't get my head around being here that's all. It's just unreal. I don't understand how you can do it, it's spectacular but scary at the same time. As for Fionn, the guy I am texting, he seems so familiar. I just can't put my finger on it."
Chris furrowed his brows, "can I see the messages?" Dotty nodded but then realised her phone was dead.
"I have no charge."
"Okay well describe what he has told you." Christopher listened carefully nodding in places and laughing at other times and from the expression on her face, he could see that Dotty was happy when talking to this guy. When she was finished she couldn't stop grinning, "Dorothy, you take after your mother so much at times, you know that?" The girl nodded. "Think, this guy, Fionn, how many Fionn's do you know, in person. Maybe that'll help." Even Chris could tell it was one of the actors on his film. Fionn Whitehead was a good guy, and if this was how happy he made her just through messages he was happy. Although he did have to think how his cover up of him being a baker was absolutely shit. Chris kissed her forehead and left his daughter alone returning to his crew and discussing things.
"How many Fionn's do I know in real life?" Dotty spoke to herself. "I only know one. Fionn Whitehead...
I don't understand...
Oh.
Ohhhh...
How could I be so dim!"
