I pulled away from Max, both of us teary eyed. It was then I realized we must have been there for quite a while because Zack's body was already gone.
I got up and Zack followed me. I slowly walked down step after step, making sure I didn't fall because of my shaky legs.
We went out the back and saw everyone gathered around a grave. Zack's grave.
I walked over and joined the circle. Standing by Carson I stared back at the ground that was disturbed. Max walked forward and place down a flower on top of all the other ones. He began saying some words about Zack in his memory. Then it hit me. And it hit me hard.
He's dead.
Zack's dead.
He's gone.
Zack's gone.
I turned around and began to run. Bri tried to grab my wrist and stop me but I wiggled away. I burst through the back door and scurried up the steps. I ran into the back room where I was crying earlier. No one followed me. I didn't want them to. I just wanted to be alone.
I paced around the room. Soon I stopped and turned around and punched the wall.
He's dead.
Punch
He's dead.
Punch
He's dead.
Punch
He's dead.
Punch
Zack's dead...
I fell to my knees. Tears streamed down my face rapidly. My shoulder shook as loud sobs escaped me. I stared down at my bloody knuckles with blurry vision. That only made me cry more.
I shook my head furiously in denial. "No!" I shrieked standing up. "No!" I screamed again. "No! No! No! No!" I kept yelling at the top of my lungs. By then I was pacing again. Suddenly the door swung open and Bri stood in the doorway. I ran over to her and pushed passed her.
"Kaitlynne!" She yelled running after me. "Stop!"
I rushed down the stairs and ran for the door. I flew out the front and kept running. I ran across the road, ignoring the yelling voices for me to stop. I started breathing heavy through my sobs as I burst into the treeline.
I ran past tree after tree after tree. Jumping over a log I screamed at the top of my lungs trying to block out their pleading voices for me to stop, not caring who or what heard me.
My short hair flew behind me as I ran into a clearing. I stopped suddenly and just fell to the ground on my knees with my face buried in my hands.
"No........"
______________
I lay in my bed staring at the ceiling.
I watched the star stickers, almost expecting them to move. I sighed and turned on my side. I looked out the window into the night before my eyes drifted to clock. Once I focused on it the only sound that could be heard was,
Tick Tok
Tick Tok
Tick Tok
The continuous ticking began to annoy me. I growled and pulled the pillow from under my head and wrapped it around my head. I groaned again as that didn't help.
I sat up and stared at the wall in front of me before swinging my legs over the side. I rubbed my face and lifted myself to my feet. I dragged myself to the door and swung it open.
