"Am I wrong?" Carson suddenly interrupted the long silence.
"What?" I giggled. Other people looked at Carson with smiles.
She continued. "For trying to think outside of the box."
"Oh ok. I get it now." Bri said with a smile before joining Carson. "Am I wrong?" She sang. Carson gave her a sidelong look before they chorused.
"For saying that I choose another way?" I joined in. "I ain't trying to do what everybody else doing. Just because everybody doing what they all do." Ryan joined in. "If one thing I know. I'll fall but I'll grow." Daryl joined in too. "I'm walking along this road of mine. This road that I call home." Mason, to our surprise, joined In too. "Am I wrong? For thinking that we can be something for real? Now am I wrong? For trying to reach the things that I can't see?" I noticed now that Max was the only one not singing with us. I gave him a confused look before continuing. "That just how I feel. Thats just how I feel. That's just I feel. Trying to reach the things that I can't see." By now everyone was smiling but Max sat there with a big fat frown on his face. "Am I trip-" We were cut off from singing anymore.
"STOP!!!" Max screamed in anger. His face dropped instantly afterwards. "Just stop..." He said barely hearable. "Please..."
"But-" I was cut off again.
"That was Zack's favorite song..." He explained further. Everyone's faces dropped and we all became silent. I muttered a small 'oh' before turning to the window.
I watched as all the buildings and trees flashed by in a blur. It seemed as it slowed down a little when I saw blood, and a child's backpack laying at the side of the road. My eyes filled with tears but they didn't fall.
'Enough crying!' I yelled at myself. I squeezed my eyes shut. 'Crying won't help anyone!' I shot my eyes back open. All the tears were gone. 'It just shows weakness! I'm am not weak!' I knew my face was twisted in anger. 'It's not worth it! You let someone in, you let yourself care and love them, but It only causes pain! ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!' My thoughts just wouldn't stop racing. 'No more... No more pain... If I force myself not to care... not to love, them it won't hurt... All I have to do is shut them out.........'
~Carson's POV~
'I didn't mean to upset everyone... I only wanted to lighten the mood...' I sighed. "Why don't we sing something else?" Max suggested, trying to lessen the tension he created in the the tiny car.
Everyone agreed but Kaitlynne. I ignored her distant look and began singing again. "There's a shop down the street where they sell plastic rings for a quarter a piece I swear it." I looked over to Daryl who was smiling that I had chosen our song. He joined me. "Yeah I know that it's cheap not like gold in your dreams but I hope that you'll still wear it." I looked around the car and saw everyone smiling. But Kaitlynne. She... she had this look... I couldn't understand what it was but... it wasn't normal. It was almost like she had no emotion. Like she had turned cold.
Everyone continued on with the song but I continued to watch Kaitlynne. She turned her head to me and gave me an ice cold glare. I turned away in shock and continued singing with the others.

~Kaitlynne's POV~
By now everyone in the car had fallen asleep. We were parked alongside of the road and I was the only one awake.
I slowly and carefully got out of the car and into the cold night air. I gently closed the door and slowly walked away from the car.I walked down the road, eyes open for any walkers. I sighed and slumped my shoulders. I spun around as soon as I heard a twig snap. I scanned the tree line but saw nothing. I stayed alert but kept going.
Rustle
I snapped my head around to be faced with something unlike what we've seen so far. It stood close to 7 feet tall. The finger tips of this new creature were sharp and long. I couldn't see much of anything else besides the fact of just how skinny it was. It's eyes glowed a threatening shade of orange. It bent over slightly and let out an animalistic scream. It started sprinting towards me. Not walking, sprinting. I let out a scream of my own and turned and started running.
It let out another one of it's scream causing a shiver to run down my back. "Screecher!!!" An unfamiliar voice yelled. When I turned around the 'Screecher' was now right behind me. It fell ontop of me but just before I fell I saw a person emerge from the bush.
I looked back up and stared right into those frightening orange eyes. It yelled again and this time I could see it's ungodly sharp teeth. Saliva dripped from its mouth and landed on my cheek. I turned away in disgust. I let out another scream just before a gunshot ran out and the Screecher lay dead ontop of me.
I pushed it off frantically and crawled away from it. "What the hell was that?!" I yelled a little louder than I should have.
"I'm guessing that was your first encounter with a Screecher?" A male voice asked. I looked up and saw a tall man with dark blue eyes and brown hair holding a hand out to me. I gripped his hand firmly and he pulled me to my feet.
Then suddenly everyone was running towards us. They must have woken up from all the noise. "What happened?!" Bri asked frantically when they got to us.
"That happened..." I gestured to the dead Screecher behind me.
"What the......."
Sorry this chapter was so short. I've been making longer chapters lately but some of them are going to be shorter like this one. This was an idea I wanted to use since the book first started and I was just now finally able to place it right. The next one will be longer, I promise.
