I stared up at the stars. The sun began to set and we all decided to go to sleep. I was in some dry clothes now and I was the only one awake.
'The stars are so... pretty...' I thought as I looked up the endless lights in the sky. 'It's seems like the stars go on forever... then again they probably do.' Looking up at those tiny little suns reminds me of when Zack and I had our first kiss. "I miss you..." I whispered. Sighing I continued watching the stars flicker.
"All around me are familiar faces, worn out faces, worn out places..." I started singing. I closed my eyes as images of Zack, Dad, Uncle John, Kaylee, everyone flashed into my mind. "Bright and early for the daily races going nowhere, going nowhere." Images of all the times we've had to escape, of how we were always running. "Their tears are filling up their glasses no expression, no expression." All the times I've cried... All the tears that were shed. "Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow to tomorrow, no tomorrow." All the times I've tried to hide from the outside world. "And I find It kinda funny, I find it kinda sad. The dreams in witch I'm dying are the best I've ever had." All the nightmares... all the dying dreams. "I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take, when people run in circles it's a very very, Mad world..." All the walkers... "Mad world..." Everything...
"Fits pretty well with our situation doesn't it?" A voice came from behind me. I sat up and saw Wyatt standing there. I wiped off the tears I didn't know had fallen.
"Yeah..." I said. Wyatt walked over to me and sat down next to me. "Did I wake you?" I asked.
"No. No ya didn't." He said. "I just find it hard to sleep... with everything that's been going on. I always go for a walk when I can't sleep." Wyatt explained. 'Why is he being so nice to me?' I thought as I nodded.
"Me too... That's why we found out about the Screechers. I couldn't sleep so I went for a walk. Wasn't my best idea." I said with a small chuckle. Wyatt slightly laughed too.
Wyatt looked up the sky. I did too. "I've always wondered..." Wyatt started. I looked at him. He was still looking up at the stars as he spoke. "How this all happened... Why? And if it was an accident, or if... they did it in purpose..." Wyatt said causing me to knit my eyebrows. He looked at me and saw my expression. "What?"
"Why would anyone want this to happen?!" I said getting emotional. "Why would anyone want all this death and destruction! Why would they want that?!" I raised my voice a little. Wyatt have me a sad look. That's when I noticed the tears that escaped.
"Kaitlynne..." Wyatt muttered sadly.
"Just why..." My voice became softer and began to break as I burst into sobs. Wyatt wrapped his arms around me. 'No... I can't get close to him... I can't get hurt again.'
I pulled away, wiping my eyes. "Geez... I gotta stop crying..." I muttered as I stood up. "Good night Wyatt." I said as I walked over to where we had set up on a higher rock. I climbed into my sleeping bag and tried to get some sleep.
'I can't get close to him...'

I woke up to the sun shining in my face. I groaned as I rolled over. Big mistake.
Thud
"Owwww...." I moaned as I stood up. I rubbed the back of my head and looked up to see Wyatt snickering at me. "Shut up..." I told him as I climbed back up on the rock.
"Morning Princess." Wyatt yawned and stretched out his arms. 'Really? This again?!'
"Don't call me that." I growled. He smirked. "Would you stop that?!" I shouted at him, waking all the others.
"What?" Wyatt said innocently. I growled in frustration. Everyone else ignored us and started packing.
"That look! Your always smirking!" I complained. He did it again. "See!?"
Then he laughed at me.
"You know you love it..." He whispered in my ear. Chills ran down my spine. Then he walked past me and began packing like nothing happened.
"What..." I muttered. I snapped out of my trance and started gathering my things and stuffing them in my bag.
Once I was packed I through my bag into the back of the car. I walked over to Mason and Ryan who were talking by the lake.
"What's the plan Mason." I said flatly. He have me a weird look. I rolled my eyes, telling him to just answer the question.
"Gunna stop by an old gas station up ahead. Maybe get some more food and water. Possibly even scrounge up some gas." He explained. I turned around and started walking back to the car.
"Good a plan as any." I hollered over my shoulder before continuing walking forward.
Soon everyone was in the car and we were on our way to the gas station.
_______________
We pulled up into the parking lot and everyone hopped out. "What about weapons?" I asked. "God knows what's in there."
"Well we have enough guns so everyone can have one. And we also have some extra weapons you can choose from that are quieter." Mason announced. He popped open the trunk and dug out a green bag.
He opened it and revealed several silent weapons and a few handguns. I stepped forward and grabbed a holster and a gun. I also grabbed a hunting knife and stuck it in my belt.
After everyone took their pick we approached the gas station doors.
"Ok. You guys remember the rules. In and out and make as little noise as possible. If there's a problem make sure to alert the others." Mason reminded us. 'Who made him leader?' I thought but listened to him anyway.
One by one we entered the store. Once we were inside we all split up. I went around back to the food aisles. There wasn't much but I managed to find a few boxes of granola bars.
I was about to move on when I heard something crash and then an unfamiliar voice yelling.
I ran over to where I heard the noise and I saw a man pinning Carson to the ground. My body instantly reacted. In rage, I ran forward and tackled the guy.
Bad move.
He was a lot stronger than me and instantly was on top of me. "You little bitch." He spat. Lucky for me he forgot I still had legs. I brought my knee up and nailed him right in the ass. He groaned in pain and rolled off of me.
I quickly flipped over so that I was on him. That's when I noticed the others watching from a distance. Ryan started to run to us but I shook my head causing him to stop. The man started to try and grab my shoulder to flip me over but I quickly grabbed my knife and sliced his palm causing him to hiss in pain. I stabbed the knife into the floor right by his head.
"You really thought you could just come in here, assault my sister and threaten my group and get away with it?" I spat at him. He looked me in the eyes and said,
"Your going to hell."
I reached my hand down and pulled the hand gun out of it's holster. I pointed it at his head.
"Meet ya there."
