Chapter Twenty-Eight: April 20th

Monday morning, I called Mrs. Thatcher to let her know that I was going to be out this first week because of what happened to my mother. She said for me to take care and to see if I knew anyone or had contacted my professors to let them know. I hadn't done so but I was about to. I contacted all of my professors via email to let them know of my current situation.

We got up and got ready and we were out the door headed to the hospital. We got to my mom's room and she was up and awake and talking to my dad. He had a huge smile on his face. I can instantly see that he was relieved that she was going to be A-OK.

"Baby girl and Charlie!" My mother called out as she saw us walking in. I went to her bedside and gave her a big hug and kissed her forehead. She didn't have any breathing devices she just had her IV and her heart monitor on. "So, I have to take it easy from now on, huh?" "Yes, Mama you do."

"Well I talked to your dad and we discussed that I am going to retire from teaching." "Dad can still work, but I'm going to be a trophy wife." I laughed at her because she never wanted to be known as a trophy wife, she was an academic scholar, she had a Ph.D. in Psychology. My mother was a beautiful woman, Charlie says this is where I get all of my looks from.

"I want you to be resting at all times, I don't want you to do too much." "Kettle, Pot, Re-Anne." "Oh mama, I'm pregnant not injured." "Yes, but for us, Martinez women don't have a great track record of being fertile. So, you need to take care of yourself." "I know mama." "Dr. Callanen said I can go home tomorrow morning." "That is great news mama." "I'll be at home this week with you." "No, you won't you need to be at school baby girl." "Mama I already emailed my professors and asked them to send me my assignments." "Ok baby girl, but you better stay on top of those assignments." "Mama I wanted to see how you were doing and when they were going to let you come home. I am going to go to your house and start cleaning up so the house is ready for you."

When made it back to my parent's house and I slowly started to clean up, the house wasn't a mess it was just laundry that needs to be taken care of. Charlie moved all of the baskets near the washer and dryer. "Baby, is this the way it's going to be when we have our own home? You help me wash all the clothes?" "Absolutely not, I'm not washing clothes!" "Charles Edward!" "I'm just kidding, of course, I'm going to eat you out." "Charles Edward Abernathy! can you please stop being so vulgar!?, "You know you love me!" Charlie laughed and I laughed too but geesh he was so nasty!

I looked up at his beautiful face and started to cry. "Baby girl, I'm sorry for what I said, but what is wrong?" "Baby I'm just so sorry, you have always been there for me, and I always just brushed you off. I always thought of you like my big good looking brother. I'm thinking of all of the first we had together, but we could have had all of our first together. I was my fault I didn't let you get close to me." I started crying more and more.

Charlie picked me up and sat me down on the washroom table. He wiped away all of my tears from my cheeks. He parted my legs and put his body in between my legs. "Baby girl I cherish every single one of our first together. You are the only one that has ever mattered. Everything and everyone else is the past is history. You are what is important to me now and forever.

You are carrying our seed, our baby, US, we made this." As he places his hand on my stomach, I place mine on top of his. "You are the only thing that I have ever wanted, yeah it would of have been wonderful to have hit every single first but its life." "Our lives went a different way for four years, but we are back together and stronger than ever. You are my future wife and mother of our kids." "Kids?" "Yes, baby girl I want as many little Re-Anne's and Charlie's that you can have." I smiled really big and gave him a kiss on the lips.

"Charlie?" "Yes, my love?" "Are you ready for all the waterworks? This is only the beginning." Charlie sunk his head into my shoulder and started to fake cry. I pouted, and he flashed me his brilliant smile. I rolled my eyes at him and told him "what I'm I going to do with you?" "Love me forever!" "Yes, my love I will love you forever!"

Charlie called my OBGYN and canceled the appointment in Providence. He found a local OBGYN that could see me tomorrow. He figured that since we won't be living in Providence for much longer than it would be best if we had one either in Kington or close to New Paltz our future home. He was just very excited to see what the OBGYN was going to say. I honestly forgot about the doctor's appointment. I'm so glad that Charlie remembered.

Wednesday, morning and my mother was released from the hospital. She wasn't all too happy because they kept her another day longer. She was glad that she was at home. We had a doctor's appointment to go to. This was a very long doctor's visit but they had to get all my vitals and all of my family history. They had to get all of Charlie's family history as well. They gave me a vaginal sonogram, and you could see the little sweet pea on the screen. We couldn't hear the heartbeat yet because I wasn't far enough along. I was definitely pregnant the nurse said I was about six weeks all of the symptoms are very common and some will intensify some will go away.

The doctor was a great OBGYN and knew his stuff, and told us that we are doing well and everything looked normal. Charlie was over the moon with all of the great news and had the biggest smile I had ever seen him with. The doctor still wanted me to take it easy not to overdo it. Dr. Matterson let us know that my approximate due date would be April 20th, I laughed at that date. Charlie looked at me confused, "Baby why are you laughing at your due date?" "Sweetheart, are you serious?" April 20th? 4/20? National Pot smoking day!?" "Baby girl seriously!?" "what its April 20th, and our child is going to be born on that day." I was laughing and laughing.
