Short Story: The Tale of Zander Rogue

During the events of RWBY Volume 5

Sienna Khan was dying. That much was obvious. She couldn't move and could barely speak, the latter of which was the entire reason she wasn't in a morgue right now. Unfortunately, she was also surrounded by enemies.

Not even half an hour earlier, Adam Taurus led a coup for the leadership of the White Fang, and succeeded. Sienna felt idiotic for not seeing it coming. He was loyal, yes, but he was more of an extremist than near anyone else in the White Fang, including herself. And she knew the three guards stationed to watch over her were merely just waiting to hear her monitor flatline. Nobody had her hooked on any kind of medicine or oxygen mask to help her. Leaving her alone, waiting for death.

It's in these moments that one considers what went wrong. What had she done wrong to deserve this kind of death? Giving Adam positions of power was certainly one thing. Letting him bring in humans, letting him simply waltz up to her, perhaps heeding more of the former High Leader's advice, and...

Well, letting him go.

If there was one regret that rose above them all, it was exiling the one person she trusted the most, the one person who would've never let any of what occurred happen. He would've cautioned her against Adam, and perhaps even been able to fend him off, along with Taurus' hired mercenaries. He was certainly capable. He'd done more dangerous things before.

'But then you got scared. And it wasn't even an exile. You forced him to do such a thing.'

Sienna mentally shook away that treacherous, yet truthful voice in the back of her head. It had been eating at her ever since that day. The series of events that had led to that day had been both happy and depressing ones. Hindsight is twenty twenty, as the saying goes. She should have never let him volunteer for that experiment let by two humans the former High Leader trusted, never let him out of her sight, and never should have done what she did to force him to leave.

When the memories of him came back, Sienna wondered if this is what people meant when they saw their life flashing through their eyes. But she knew this was just a bit different. Or perhaps this is what really happens when people say that... Relive memories of when they were with the people they admired most.

Zander Rogue. The greatest fighter she ever met. A proud warrior... and a good friend.

Years ago...

SDC mercenaries were jerks. Sienna had run into her fair share of them in the White Fang's goal of peace and respect. And thus the reason why she had wanted more... progressive protests. Fighting back, defending themselves. The High Leader never would have approved of violent reactions. The actions of the Arcadian Pack had further boosted his opinion on the matter. But Ghira Belladonna was no longer the High Leader. She was. And how appropriate that her first big mission on the throne was taking out a group of SDC mercenaries that were spotted marching near their base.

Jacques Schnee's personal mini-army was already enough to deal with when the White Fang was only doing peaceful protesting. And when the Arcadian Pack began their various rampages, those mercenaries only got deadlier. But now, Sienna knew that this would be a new beginning, a new flag rising. She went out onto the soon-to-be-battlefield personally to prepare her new troops for the fight ahead of them. And by her side was her trusted bodyguard and childhood friend, Zander Rogue.

This White Fang regiment was small, but still probably outnumbered the mercs three to one, but that mattered little when her own troops, while with much conviction, lacked experience. There would be a tough fight ahead, but Sienna had faith. The outcome of this battle will determine what would happen with her place of power, and really the future of the White Fang in general.
