**Chapter 09**

My mom lead me through the door to Niall's room. I took in the sights; the pristine white walls and furniture, the new high-tech machinery, and of course the unconscious boy laying in the hospital bed with an oxygen mask on.

Tears of happiness fell. I was so happy to see him alive and breathing on his own. I walked over to his side and sat down in the chair closest to him.

"Do you remember how he got into the water?" my mom asked from behind me, still standing in the doorway.

I wiped the tears away, "I remember him running off the dock along with Harry and Zayn. Why?"

My mom sighed, "Well, because he's suffering from a concussion. We think he slipped backwards and hit his head on the edge of the dock."

I narrowed my eyes in confusion, "But wouldn't Zayn and Harry see him do it?"

My mom shook her head, "Not necessarily. It most likely looked like he was going back first into the water, like he was trying to do a back flip, but failed. He wasn't doing a flip was he?" my mom asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I don't know."

I heard my mom sigh behind me, "We've always told you guys not to do flips off that damn dock because this is what will happen, Julina."

I let a few tears fall, "I know mom. You don't need to keep reminding me."

I sighed, taking Niall's hand in mine, rubbing my thumb across the four upper knuckles of his hand. I heard my mom walk to stand next to me. She ran her fingers threw my hair, brushing it out of my face, then let her hand rest on my shoulder, "I know this is hard for you Julina. Hell, it's hard for me too, seeing him like this, it breaks my heart."

"He is going to be alright though right?" I asked.

"Yeah, he'll be fine," she said before pausing, "Would you like some time alone with him?"

I gave her a small smile and nodded before she left the room. I looked at Niall, examining him closely. The first thing I noticed was that he was pale white. He looked really sick and unhealthy. I noticed a very faint blue tint of his skin around his nose and mouth from not being able to breathe. I saw how his heartbeat steadily paced itself on the heart monitor. I realized just how much this blonde haired boy meant to me.

He meant more than the world to me. He kept me safe from any harm, physically and emotionally. He's always there for me, and I could tell him anything. I could be myself around him, and most importantly, he loved me when times were difficult. When I was difficult, he stayed with me though thick and thin. He was my best friend.

The thought of losing him tore me apart. I broke down again as I placed my head on his arm, still holding onto his hand, "I love you Niall. More than I could ever express to you. You were always there for me, and now I want to return the favor." I said and picked my head up to look at him, "It's time for me to be strong when you have weak moments, but to be honest with you, I don't know if I can be strong right now. Seeing you like this rips me to pieces." I said truthfully. "But, I'm going to be strong for you because I know you would believe that I could. I know you're going to be okay. Mom said so."

I heard a knock at the door before it opened up, revealing my mother. I smiled at her, then looked back at Niall. "I let your friends know how he was doing." she spoke.

"Are they still here?"

"No, it's 10 o'clock. No visitors past ten, so they left." she said and paused for a moment, "C'mon Julina. Let's go home. He'll be okay." she said.

I sighed and stood from my chair. I gave Niall a small kiss on the cheek before leaving his room to go home.
