Resentment

When we reached the castle, Father was waiting for us at the drawbridge. He did not seem pleased with how long it took us to get back though it was only a couple of days. Thankfully, he didn't lecture me about it.

"How are the Champions?" he asked.

"Revali is doing fine. And Daruk has mastered his Divine Beast just as well as the others. Things are fitting right into place," I said joyfully.

"Besides one other thing."

I closed my eyes, "Father, I will get right to the Spring of Power as soon as I can."

"Good. Go get dressed accordingly," he said, then to Link, "Come. You'll need to get the horses ready for the journey. As I understand, you're a natural at taming them."

They went off in one direction as I continued to proceed toward my room. When I got there, my maids were nowhere to be found. I didn't mind if they were there or not, that was until I couldn't find the dress. Going out into the hall, I asked the first person I came across if they had seen my maids. They told me that the last they saw them was at the stables.

I held back a groan, knowing Father and Link would be in there. How humiliating would it be if I had to tell them that I had lost the dress? I couldn't blame myself, considering I knew my maids took it out of my drawers to wash it whenever they got the chance.

As I got to the stables I came to a halt as I heard Link's voice utter a full sentence. I was glad that I had not yet come to their viewpoint as the topic was about me. Yes, I eavesdropped once again. I was a very curious person, still am.

"Your Majesty, I've noticed that you do not let the princess carry any kind of weapon."

"You want to know why," Father said with a sigh, "In truth, Zelda was never trained to use weapons. It is not meant for her. When she needs something to protect herself, she'll be able to with her sacred power."

I knew that was why he never allowed me a weapon, but hearing it aloud broke my heart. He truly was willing to let me go face the darkest forces of our land without a weapon to defend myself. If that was how he felt, then so be. I didn't need an escort protecting me! I didn't need to earn the power by praying! None of the Champions prayed to have their power given to them!

Calming myself down, I waited until the perfect moment arrived for my escape. While I waited, I continued to listen.

"Now, wait here," Father's voice said, "I'll go get Zelda. She should have been here by now."

Hearing his footsteps coming, I quickly hid in one of the empty stalls. As soon as the coast was clear, I came out of hiding. Then I marched over to where Link was saddling my horse. He glanced down at my outfit, noting that I wasn't in the white dress.

"I won't be needing an escort today!" I said, getting on my horse and taking the reins from him, "Apparently Father agrees with me. After all, if I'm to endanger myself, I shouldn't have someone with me. So don't accompany me. Don't!"

With that, I whipped the reins strong and hard. My horse neighed and dashed right out of the stables. Link looked as if he was going to stop me, but he was too late. I didn't think he even had his horse ready either. That meant I had a good head start.

I wasn't really trying to endanger myself, but in ways, I knew that I was. Traveling over Tanager Canyon and putting myself so close to Gerudo Highlands wasn't the smartest idea. The Highlands were where the Yiga Clan had been sighted at the most. The theory was, their base was somewhere in there.

However, the spot I was heading to was a shrine. One of the shrines the owner of Foothill Stables had marked on his map. All I could think was that, in order to unlock the scared power, the most important thing I had to do was uncover as much truth as I could through my research. It was the only thing that kept me motivated through the years.
