Going past the Ginner Woods and the Midla Woods we came to the charming place called Hateno Village. Many of the people we passed seemed to know Link very well as they waved at him as we got off our horses. I was glad to be back in my traveling clothes with only my braid as a crown.
I followed Link up a trail with my horse by me. We reached a small bridge at led to a house on the outskirts of the village. Off to the side of the house was a stable for horses. Link led his horse inside, then guided mine in next.
"Whose house is this?" I asked, looking over the cozy home.
Taking his place by my side, he said, "It was the house my mother grew up in. I bought it recently."
"So this is where you went after your Father died?" I asked, glancing at him.
He nodded but didn't dwell on his sadness as he took my hand. I could tell he was looking forward to showing me the inside of the house. He opened the front door and we walked in.
There was a small table set up in the center. Up a set of stairs was a bed. Tucked away under the stairs was storage. It was a good size, but I wondered how a whole family had lived here.
"There was a room under this part." He knocked on the wall that supported the second level. "It's a shed now. My grandparents changed it after my mother married my father."
I nodded, understanding what he meant. It sounded like he had known his grandparents for only a short time, another thing we had in common.
"Well, I can see why your family never sold the place. It's homey," I said.
He set his sword down, picking up a broom in its place. "It could use some cleaning. You should get some rest."
I sighed, not wanting to go to sleep. I didn't classify slipping into nightmares as resting. What I really needed was rest from worry.
"Actually, I think I'm going to pick some flowers to brighten the room a little. I'll sleep when evening arrives."
He watched as I went out of the house. A moment later I heard him drop the broom and pick up his sword. He rushed to catch up with me as I walked to the small pond next to the stable. I sat down in the grass as I scanned the flowers. There were many yellow ones blooming around the pond.
Reminding myself of my childhood I started to make a crown for Link. Knowing that Link was sitting behind me, I turned around with the finished crown of flowers and placed it on his head with a grin. He blushed, his eyes going crossed-eyed as he tried to look at the flowers on his head.
I laughed, but as his eyes locked onto mine I knew I was in for it. He picked me up right off the ground. I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck as he seemed to be hinting at the idea of dropping me into the water. I wasn't going in unless he was going with me.
"Now wait a minute!" I shouted as he walked into the water anyway.
When it got deep enough, he tried throwing me in. My hold around his neck loosened, but I managed to get his arm as I yanked him in the rest of the way. The flower crown floated on top of the water as we both swam up after the fall.
I laughed gleefully as I grabbed the crown of flowers. Then I put it right back on his head while saying, "That's what you get for--"
He splashed me mid-sentence. I closed one eye as I looked away from the flying sprinkles of water. The splash war began.
After several minutes, I walked to the shallow end of the water to get away. He had since put the crown of flowers on my head. I was just trying to retreat when I ended up slipping. He caught me, appearing worried. I faced my head down, letting him suffer just a bit before I popped my head up with a smile.
