jaehyun couldn't help but shiver all throughout the flight. no matter how hard he tried to stop, his body wouldn't allow it. taeyong was no better. the two had deep dark circles under their eyes from their lack of sleep.
every time jaehyun went to close his eyes he pictured taeil and johnny, their bloodied bodies somewhere hidden where no one would ever be able to find them. the mere image caused his stomach to churn.
"jaehyun," taeyong breathed out, his hand creeping its way into jaehyun's. "whatever happens, i just... i want you to know everything leading up to this moment has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride. despite all the ups and downs, i would still choose to ride it all over again. we fought against all odds and despite what's going on right now, in the end, we'll be alright."
"you're stronger than anyone i know taeyong. and i just want to thank you for showing me what real love is like. you're everything i've dreamt about and longed for. no matter what, i'll be standing right beside you."
taeyong repeatedly rubbed his eyes, fighting off the tears that wanted to so badly escape. he couldn't cry in front of jaehyun again, he had to be strong for the both of them despite knowing there wasn't any hope. taeyong reassured jaehyun but his words are spoken lies.
the second they stepped foot back onto korean land, the two were screwed. jaehyun knew so too, but he still clung to the sliver of hope that taeyong's words were true.
taeyong's thumb rubbed the tears away from jaehyun's cheeks. "i love you," he whispered, letting their foreheads rest upon each other. "don't cry jae. i need you to be strong for me."
"okay." jaehyun choked out. "i'll be strong. i promise." at that moment, the two shared what they knew would be their last kiss.

once the pair started walking with the crowd of passengers to baggage claim jaehyun stopped dead in his tracks, causing taeyong to slam into his shoulder. the older male grimace, his hand instantly shooting up to rub his stinging shoulder.
"t—taeil?" jaehyun stared in disbelief. his brain formulating no other thoughts other than taeil's name.
taeyong looked around confused until noticing a familiar build, just meters away from them holding a sign that read out their names. jaehyun's legs felt like lead as he tried to push forward through the crowd.
