The room was extremely quiet. I stared at Luke. Austin's face was plain. It was the same face I had seen when I'd met him. Blank like a sheet of paper.
I was more focused on the fact that Jason had a wife. I'd never met her, nonetheless knew she existed.
"Why?" Austin asked.
"It was an accident. You know how me and her never got along. It was the night of your 8th birthday. Me and her were arguing because she truly believed I was a bad influence on you. She was screaming and then she went insane. She started throwing random objects at me. I was just trying to protect myself. Then I grabbed the concrete vase and threw it at her head. She collapsed by the door and started to bleed out."
Austin's POV
*Flashback*
She always had a hatred towards Luke. Every time I asked why, they shut me out. All of them.
He was my bestfriend. I grew up with him. I'll tell my story while he tells his.
When I was born, he was always there. He was one of the few faces I could remember. Aside from Alexandria and Jason, I remember fragments of my birth mother and Jason's wife, Maria, fighting. Fragments of when we all used to play together. Luke would be lying if he said he hasn't seen our sister since he was two. When I was born, she was 3 and he was 4. Her name was Christina. Long brown hair and green eyes. When I was old enough to walk, we all used to play together. All of us, Alexandria, Luke, Christina, Brian and Drew and me. When I was 4 and Luke was 8, Alex was about 5 and Christina was 7, and Brian and Drew, the twins, were 6.
My memories are quite a mess. I only saw my mother when she used to come and pick up Christina after a long day of play. I used to call her Chrissy. I was convinced that Maria and Jason were our parents since they raised me and Alex and Luke. I never saw Rick due the hatred Jason had for him.
The reason my mother only wanted to have Christina was still unclear to me. Why was Christina so special? Why didn't my mother or father want me?
I barely remember much. Just that some days, Christina didn't come to play with us. When I was 5, they all started disappearing. Christina never came back and Brian and Drew became memories as well. Later on, Brian cane back and joined XLX.
All I had was Alexandria and Luke. But as you know, Luke disappeared too. We'll get to that.
It was the night of my eighth birthday. Luke was 12 years old. I had a little party with cake and presents and Alexandria and Luke were my only companions by my side. Luke was responsible, yet he was always getting in trouble with Maria for simple things about school or something he broke. But let's start from the very beginning of that day after school.
"Don't pick at the flowers, mother will get mad." Luke said to Alexandria.
"But they're so pretty." She said picking another daisy.
I ignored them as I reached for the soccer ball.
It fell in the pool. They continued to argue.
I reached for it but my short arm couldn't get to it.
I watched it drift the corner of the pool. It was still faraway but I thought that if I tried hard enough, I'd reach it.
Of course, I fell in the pool. I had almost drowned until Luke came in and saved me.
Mother had witnessed it all.
"I told you watch them!" She scolded him, slapping his arm.
