"I'm sorry, Mr. Cary. We don't know where she is."
"Doesn't your campus have security cameras?"
"Yes, sir, but we haven't spotted her since she retrieved her things."
"Alright. Thanks anyways."***
Hoseok laid in his bed for a long time, his head propped up on his arm, staring at the empty white ceiling above him. It was difficult for him to sleep in recent days, and he wasn't sure why.
Perhaps it had something to do with the girl that slept on their sofa every night, cuddling the pink dolphin that Jin bought her at the aquarium.
Whether it was Winter, or the messages that he read on her phone, it didn't change the fact that he couldn't sleep. No matter how hard he tried. Not for hours and hours.
"Hoseok oppa," a soft, sleep voice called in a whisper outside his door. He sat up, furrowing his brow. "Can I come in?"
Hoseok slipped out of bed, walking to the door in slow, cautious steps. He knew what it meant if he opened that door, but he did it anyways. Consequences be damned.
Winter stood there, in a loose black shirt and much too short shorts. Her raven hair was down around her shoulders, but he was certain it had been pulled back when she went to bed that night.
"Can I...?" She asked again, reaching up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. Just a subtle movement such as that was enough to make it impossible to refuse.
"Okay," he nodded, stepping back to give her room to enter. She brushed past him, walking until she reached the edge of his bed. Winter sat down and flattened her hand against the sheets. They were so soft against her fingers.
"Where is Jimin?"
"He's staying in Taehyung and Jungkook's room tonight. They were playing games last I heard," he explained, lingering by the door he left open for the moment.
"Can I stay here?" She turned to look directly at him. Her eyes fluttered a bit, and he noticed for the first time that she had been crying. They were red, and her lashes stuck together in some places where water had been.
"Winter," he said her name softly, pushing his bedroom door closed. "Why have you been crying?"
"If you prefer to sleep alone, I can go back to the sofa," Winter replied, dropping her head and ignoring his question entirely. She ran her hands along the sheets again.
Hoseok stepped closer until he could kneel down in front of her. He rested his hands on her knees.
"Winter, please tell me. Just this once, don't hide from me." He could tell something was wrong, something serious. He felt so helpless when she wouldn't tell him what it was.
"I want to stay," she sighed in English, sniffing a little at the end as if she was holding back a flood behind her eyes. "Can I stay here tonight, Hoseok?"
"If you tell me what--"
He was silenced, immediately, when her small hands grabbed his face and her lips pressed to his. Hoseok knew, deep down, she was doing it to hide from him, to stop him from asking questions. Yet, at the same time, she was kissing him.
"Nevermind, Hoseok oppa," she breathed after pulling away just a few seconds later. "I'm not tired anymore." Winter got up from the bed and stepped around him entirely. Before she could reach the door, Hoseok's hand was on her wrist, holding her in place.
