I gazed as they walked merrily along their path, never looking back. Now, I'm having a feeling Keith and Declana don't even want me to be their friend, I think they're trying to say they're better off on their own. They just can't say it straight up. They just walk away like every other day, careless about me. I don't get it, how can you just forget about a friend like that, especially one that you've known for nine years or maybe even your whole life? I try to take my mind off them for awhile, and look at some other people. I spot Ernest walking alone in the schoolyard, as always. He comes across Ethan and the other boys. "What are you doing with your life weirdo?" Ethan snorts at him. "Not much to do I guess," replies Ernest, rolling his eyes. "Plan to achieve anything, and the science fair doesn't count," Ethan laughed with all the other boys. "You wouldn't understand," stated Ernest. "Oh, we'll understand, don't worry about that," remarked Ethan. "Well, I really want to be friends with Declana, but I'm afraid she doesn't like me," says Ernest tensely. Ethan and the boys burst out with laughter. "Nobody likes you! You have no friends! And to think a civilized, sensible, smart person like Declana would ever like an outcast like you!" exclaimed Ethan. Everyone started laughing at Ernest, and for once, I knew how he felt. Ernest stepped away from the crowd, alone and deep in thought. I could tell he knew that Declana never liked him, and never will. I could tell he knew that nobody liked him, but then he saw me. He stared at me for about two minutes, then came over and sat beside me. "Why are you alone?" he asked. "Ever since Declana and Keith became best friends, they've never bothered to talk to me, or notice me. They've ignored me for the past week or so," I stated. It sort of felt good to finally talk about my feelings with someone, even if it is Ernest. "So what I see is that you're not quite happy your best friends are getting along," replied Ernest. I looked at him, embarrassed. "No, it's okay! I kind of don't want them to be best friends either." "Well, there's nothing we can do. They're inseparable now," I remarked. Ernest said, "There's a solution to every problem, and outcasts like us have to stick together. That's what my parents always say. You know, my Mom's a doctor and my Dad's a scientist and we have a little cottage in the forest and-" "Okay I get it! Get to the point!" I exclaimed. "What I'm trying to say is, we'll talk to them gently. And with a little careful planning, we'll get what we want. Deal?"suggested Ernest. I thought about my options, they were limited. I had no choice but go along with Ernest's plan, if I want my friends back anyway. "Deal," I sighed. "Okay then, I'll talk with Keith and you'll deal with Declana," Ernest stated. "Shouldn't I talk with Keith since he's my cousin?" I asked. "Well I can't talk with Declana now can I?" replied Ernest. He had a point. Then he whispered the rest into my ear. Once again, I had no choice but to go along with it. And I would do anything to get my friends back.
