As Kara embraced Alex in her arms she abruptly shot her eyes open.

"No, no, no. What am I saying? Alex died! There's nothing that can change that!" She said pushing herself up and staggering backwards.

"Kara, please. You have to believe me, it's your sister. Alex." She pleaded for her grieving sister to believe her honest words.

"SHE DIED!" Kara yelled and yelled. Tears glistening in her sky blue eyes. "I DIDN'T SAVE HER SO SHE'S DEAD!"
Kara let the words form in her throat and cry out her lips. Even her tone could break the heart of the strongest.

More tears stung her skin and trailed down her chin. It felt as if every step she took something just dragged her down and every time her feet would hit the ground her steps became heavier and heavier. Finally her legs had given out as the hero crippled to her knees. She let her head fall in her hands delicately.

Alex ran to her side and laced both her arms gently around her sobbing sister. "It's okay, it's okay. I'm here now." She whispered.

"I'm so sorry, Alex..." she sobbed. "I should've been able to save you." She whispered again.

"Hey, hey, hey." Alex cooed and scooted in front of her while also on her knees. "You did save me."

"But-but I saw you...die. I heard your screams." She stuttered while clenching her jaw at the scarring memory.

"No, Kara that was just a dream. I'm here, and I'm okay." She toned gently.

"But I see you wither away every time... every time I close my eyes." Kara said tensing her brittle voice.

"It's not real. I'm real. But that dream wasn't." Alex persuaded.

"Then... what happened?" Kara asked looking up and meeting her sister's beautiful brown eyes. She wanted to see, hope, that her beliefs weren't true and Alex's words were.

"You saved me, and then you were in a coma for about a week, maybe two. And now you are awake, but your mind must have dreamt me dying, but Kara I didn't. I'm still alive because of you."

"You're still alive because of me." She repeated and watched her as if she was waiting for confirmation.

"Yes, Kara, yes."

Kara grinned warmly, even though her plum cheeks were drenched with hot salty tears.

Everything came back to her. Saving Alex. She got filled with a sudden sense of pure joy, the kind of joy that makes your insides feel like mush and heart like a shining star.

Alex smiled back and brushed the soul of her thumb against Kara's cheek and wiped away some tears.

Kara gently placed her fingers on Alex's forearm just to feel her presence. Hoping that she was there. Just her being there warmed Kara's insides and gave her a dopey smile.

"I love you Alex, and I swear to always protect you."

"I love you too."
