It had been 4 hours since Lillian called and suddenly changed how much time they had left and had been 6 hours since Kara saved Lena from Cadmus, but could lose someone more precious. They had 20 more hours and all hell would break loose. It was midnight and everyone else was sleeping except for Supergirl and Lena.
Supergirl still stood on the porch at the DEO. Waiting for something to happen, waiting for answers. For a single noise, for a single sound that Lillian's promises were kept. That her sister was alive. That she would be released once Kara kept her end of the agreement. It haunted her.
Lena just sat at her desk at LCorp. She was still processing the fact that her best friend could betray her so, and now her sociopathic brother sent her something that could kill the Girl Of Steel. She twiddled with the glass tube in her fingers watching the thick liquid wave and undulate to her movement. Could she do it? Could she hurt someone that for the longest time she considered a friend? Until now. She didn't know.
Kara stared up at the bright beautiful stars and galaxies up in the sky the lay like a blanket. She found her eyes lost at sky and her thoughts lost in the sound of the streets down below still trying to hear something. There was only one thing she could do, and that was to break Lex out of prison, or nothing. Alex wouldn't want her too ever, ever, break a maniac like him out of prison. Or hell, almost anyone for that matter. Especially not for her.
Lena brushed her fingers up and down the glass, still processing everything. There was a sudden knock at the door making Lena jump fifty feet into the air. She jammed the devious ore into a drawer with a hard thud. "Come in!" She called and pushed her self up in the chair that was slightly spinning-like Lena's head- from the commotion.
"What do you want?" Lena growled and stood up strong as the one and only, Lillian Luthor walked in with the fakest smile.
"Ah, that's no way to greet your mother!"
"The last time I saw you, you held me hostage just to draw in my best friend!" She raised her voice a little secretly wishing that she had Kara's heat vision.
"Ah, ah, ah! She's not your friend. She's a back stabbing liar and is no 'hero'." She spat and now stood in front of her desk.
Lena didn't want to, but knew that deep down her mother was right and she hated to agree. "I asked you once and I'll ask you again. What. Do. You. Want?"
"Fine. Play it that way, but all I want is our family reunited, is that so bad? Only god knows that Lex will be our soon and then we will all be a family once again." A snicker grew on her face.
"You are no family! You all are a bunch of lunatics and when this is over you will be his cell buddy." A snarl suddenly appeared on Lillian's face and Lena puffed up her chest with pride.
"Fine, suit yourself, but when you come back running I just want you to know that, unlike you, I know that we are family and I will welcome you." Lillian told her and marched out of the room. Lena stood silent and glared at her mother having her eyes follow her stomping feet back and behind the door.
"Kara," came a familiar voice.
"Hey J'onn." Kara said not even turning around and flashed a small smile.
"How are you holding up?" He asked and stood next to her.
"I don't know." She admitted, "I can't lose her, and I can't break Lex out of prison."
"We will find her, I promise." Her reassured Kara.
"And how do you know? We only have twenty more hours and have nothing. Her tracker isn't working and she could be anywhere from right inside of the DEO to across the world for all we know." Kara stated and threw her hands up in the air.
"Oh, don't think like that!" He exclaimed and patted her back making her cape sway.
They both sat in silence for a couple seconds until Kara spoke up, "I'm just gonna go home."
She burst into the sky as a red and blue blur and shot away like a rocket. Kara flew and landed delicately on her carpet through the open window. The second her foot made contact with the ground her super hearing kicked in. Someone was here.
She curiously rounded the corner to see a limp figure at the end of the hallway and her breath got hitched in her throat. No! No, it's impossible. How could he...
"Lex Luthor."
