chapter seven - the twins, part two

I feel the first baby coming, before the epidural has kicked in and I push it out with just three or four strainings, it's a shapely baby boy, out of my body within two hours.

The other baby takes more time to come out, after 16 hours in labour, the second baby still ain't out and I'm forced to have a c-section.

When 'Money' sees the second child, he goes pale, white as a bedsheet and I realize something is wrong, extremely wrong.

- Jacob, what's wrong?! Jacob! Say something! I say, pleading.

- No...no...please no...he whimpers. My baby girl.

After two minutes, the longest two minutes in both our lives, we hear a sound so welcome it moves us both to tears, our daughter, crying.

- I have my princess, 'Money' cries out in relief. My Ana is alive.

- Does daddy want to hold his little girl? the nurse asks.

- Sure, you can, she's your daughter, the nurse says.

I feed Nick while 'Money' cuddles Ana and then we switch.
