We got to the eastside lookouts sooner than expected.
"Where are the lookouts? Hand me the walkie," I told Tara.
She handed hers to me.
"Morgan? Where are you and the others?" I said into it.
"We're staying behind to make sure everything is all clear. Just be sure to leave a car behind. We'll leave afterwards," he said.
"Okay. Be careful," I said.
"Copy that. See y'all at home," he said.
"Back at ya," I said.
We opened the car closest to us. There were two more cars left behind.
"Let me drive. You guys need to talk," Tara said.
I looked over at Daryl. He hadn't spoken a word since I told him.
"Babe. Babe, we gotta go," I said.
I had interrupted his thoughts.
"Yeah. Okay," he said.
We got into the backseat and Tara started the car. Daryl couldn't take his eyes off me.
"So you must have a lot of questions. Go ahead and ask them," I said turning to look at him.
"When...how long have you known?" he asked.
"I found out yesterday. It was weird for me to feel nauseous all of a sudden so Michonne suggested the possibility of being pregnant. Tara found a pregnancy test and well...it was positive," I said.
"Tara and Michonne knew? And neither of them told me?" he asked looking at Tara through the rear-view.
"Hey. I asked them not to say anything. I wanted to be the one to tell you," I said placing my hand on his cheek so he'd look back at me.
"You knew and you still came with us? Why would you put yourself at risk like that?" he asked.
"Because you and I are a team, remember? Wherever you go, I go. If something happened to us, at least we'd go out together," I said.
"It was stupid of you to come. I should have let you rest," he said.
"I am capable of making up my own mind you know, Dixon," I said.
He sighed.
"Why didn't you tell me the minute you found out?" he asked.
"I tried to. But we kept getting interrupted. And I wanted to get the chance to talk to you. Now I know this is a shock to you and all. Believe me, I couldn't believe it either but if you have any objections, I'll hear them out. But if you do, just know that I am keeping this baby. Regardless of what you say," I said.
"You think I'd stop you from having a kid?" he asked.
"Well, I don't know if you want a kid. You've been hesitant about the whole topic of babies since we started talking about it," I said.
He came closer and kissed me.
"I ain't got a single objection to any of this," he said when we parted.
I started to get teary-eyed.
"Really?" I asked.
"I never thought about being a dad before. But now, I'm all in. I love ya. And I'll love this baby just as much," he said.
I let out a relieving breath and smiled. He half smirked then kissed me again.
"Glad you're on board, Daryl. I would have kicked your ass otherwise," Tara said.
