We spent most of the morning welding the sheets of metal onto cars. We made sure to cut openings near the windows so that our rifles could fit. Having the welder around really helped us.
"A rifle suits you," I said to Eric while the two of us were taking a little break.
He chuckled.
"Well, I figure if Aaron can do it, why can't I?" he retorted.
"Glad to have you fighting alongside us," I said.
Aaron came up to us then.
"What are you guys talking about?" he asked.
"Oh the usual. War talk and all," I said.
"You look good with a rifle," Aaron said.
"That's what I said," I chimed in.
"So. How was your wedding night?" Eric asked.
I looked over at Daryl who was finishing one of the cars and smiled. I looked back at them.
"Are you sure you want to know?" I asked with a hint of mischief in my voice.
"On second thought, never mind. Your smile says it all," Eric said.
"Well then you know. It. Was. Incredible," I said.
"Okay. We don't want the dirty, sweaty details," Aaron said.
"Then Eric shouldn't have asked," I retorted.
We all laughed.
"What's so funny?" Daryl asked coming up to us.
"Eric and Aaron are just being silly," I said wrapping my arms around him.
"Well, everything is looking good. Rick wants to meet at the clearing again in about an hour," he said placing his arms around my waist.
"Sounds good. There's a few more cars that need to be welded. And then we'll start to put an end to this," I said.
"We'll make it right," he said.
"Yo, newlyweds," Tara called from two cars down.
"You think you could help us out here?" she continued.
"Coming!" I shouted.
I gave Daryl a quick kiss and then headed over to help her and Francine. We got the remaining cars welded and then eventually, all the cars and the RV were set. We had some lunch before heading to the clearing once more.
"The first part is done. We're gonna head over tomorrow. Some could use a little more rest. Daryl, do you think you could sneak over there and get the details of lookouts from Dwight?" Rick said once everyone was gathered around the clearing.
Daryl nodded. Rick looked at me.
"Yeah. You didn't really think I was gonna let him go off on his own, did you?" I said.
"Of course not," Rick chuckled.
"You want us to head out now?" Daryl asked.
"It's up to you," Rick said.
"Yeah. We'll head out now," Daryl said.
He grabbed hold of my hand and led us out of the clearing.
"See you guys later," I called out.
Daryl and I headed to the armory.
"So, how are we gonna talk to the guy without seeing him face to face?" I asked.
