When I got there, I took a seat in between the two graves. I just sat there and remembered everything they both had instilled in me. Glenn was always full of hope. He never gave up on people and strongly believed in second chances. That was his thing. He cared so deeply. He and I were a lot alike in that sense.
"I miss you, Glenn," I whispered.
"What I wouldn't give to tell you this news," I whispered again placing my hand over my stomach.
I then looked to Abraham's grave. He was one of the toughest people I'd ever come across.
"You were good with us. We could use that fire you always had right about now. But I guess in a way, your death ignited one in all of us...unfortunately," I said.
I sniffled and wiped away some of the tears. I then heard Cal shout something. The gates opened. Someone must have come back but I needed a little more time with them. I really don't know how much time had passed.
"Amelia," he whispered.
I looked up.
"Rick. You're back," I said starting to get up.
"You don't have to. Are you okay?" he asked kneeling down next to me.
"Yeah. You and Michonne okay?" I said.
"Yeah. Carol told me where you were," he said.
"Did everyone get something to eat?" I asked.
"Carl told me everyone got their share. Have you?" he retorted.
"Not yet," I said.
And as if he knew, Daryl came over with a bowl of something. I stood up just as he reached us.
"I told you to come find me when you were done," he said.
"I know, I just...I needed to see them. I'm sorry," I said.
He kissed my cheek.
"Here. Eat up," he said handing me the bowl.
It was filled with sliced apples. He then looked to Rick.
"You know, I...I look around and I think about the people that are gone. And the people that are still here. It ain't right. And it ain't fair. Look about what I did at Sanctuary, trying to end it real quick, I just wanted it done. I didn't want to give them another chance. Not again. I didn't care...who was there. I don't know if that makes it right or..." he said.
Rick stood up.
"It does. I didn't want to risk killing innocent people. I should have just been worried about our people. Hell with anyone else," Rick said.
I looked at him.
"Do you really mean that, Rick?" I asked.
"We'll keep fighting. No matter what," he replied.
"I know that but killing innocent people isn't the way to go about things. It isn't who we are. After what Carl said, do you really believe that's a good idea?" I asked again.
He sighed.
"The Saviors are coming here," Daryl said.
"I know. And we're gonna fight them. But try to remember what we are fighting towards. An 'after'. Like Carl said," I retorted.
Rick nodded.
"Like Carl said. I'm sorry...you're right. Now, Maggie's got lookouts out there," Rick said.
"Every half-mile. Waiting to signal each other, I know," Daryl said.
"I'm going too. To make sure we're all ready," Rick said.
