As we made our way over, we held up our weapons and were fully alert. I couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic the whole time. The last time Rosita, Daryl and I had gone out on a run was with Denise. It was a shame that she wasn't still here. She was on the verge of finding her ferociousness in this tough world. That was cut way too short no thanks to Dwight. I don't think I could ever forgive him for that. No matter what he did for us, that was something I would never forget. The coast was clear. There was no sign of walkers or Saviors anywhere.
"Over there," Daryl said.
He was pointing at a building nearby.
"We keep tabs on what's going on. Okay. Good idea," Rosita said.
We followed him through some bushes.
"Okay. Go, go," he whispered when we had reached the door to the building.
We quietly made our way up to the top floor. Rosita looked out the window.
"Perfect view," she said.
She handed me the binoculars she had brought along. I looked through them and saw a few cars parked outside the building that definitely looked like a factory.
"Is it up and running?" I asked handing Daryl the binoculars.
"We'll have to wait and see. If there are cars parked, I'm sure that it is. Unless it's some stragglers holding up in there," she said.
"That's unlikely," I said.
I went and looked out the windows on the other side to see what was worth seeing. From this distance, there were multiple buildings that could either be occupied or empty. A lot of places one could hide.
"There he is," Rosita said.
I went back to her and reached for the binoculars. Eugene was outside making some notes on a paper pad. He seem to be wearing some sort of lab coat.
"Yeah. There he is," I said handing them back to her.
"We don't know if he's making them bullets or not," Daryl said.
"And we don't want to risk going down there without knowing," Rosita said.
"So we wait. It should be dark soon. Maybe they'll be moving the materials at night. Better cover," I said.
I went a sat down placing my backpack next to me. I pulled out my bottle of water and took a few sips.
"Here," Rosita said.
She held out what looked like an oat cake.
"Is this..." I trailed off.
"Yeah. Homemade oat cakes. Like the ones Denise used to make. Tara learned how to make them by watching her. She figured we could use some," she said.
I took it then sighed.
"I miss her," I said while looking at the cake.
"Yeah. I do too," she said.
I opened the wrapper up and took a bite. Rosita went back to keep watch. The oat cake was as good as I remembered. Daryl then came and sat next to me.
"Want some?" I asked.
"Nah. I'm good thanks," he said.
I pushed it in front of him. He rolled his eyes and took a piece.
"Tastes better than it looks," he said.
I smiled as I remember when he said that exact same thing to Denise.
