Chapter 6

I felt my chest hammering wildly inside me. I almost feel sick. My palms became sweaty with every thump in me. I felt my body warm up making me remove my half body jacket. I felt a slight nip of coldness on my exposed skin and I felt a little bit relaxed but still feeling on edge.  With the hammering and nervousness back, I started to feel my stomach twisting uncomfortably.

Covetousness enveloped my whole body making my shoulders tense. I can’t stand seeing Jayden being kissed by others. So Jayden flirts with me then dates Jessie? Does that mean I’m one of his options? With the thought my chest clenched tightly. Is he dating that despicable girl? Are they together? Why didn’t he mention this to me the other day? Questions flood my head and I don’t know whether I should approach and ask them or simply hide here.

‘I don’t need to see this. But I can't just ignore this. Am I jealous of the fact that Jayden is dating someone not me? For goodness sake, this is the first time I felt envy inside me. Wishing and hoping it is I he was waiting for. Then I will be the one to kiss him hello.’ The small voice in my head said dreamily.

‘Wait. Yes, I can ignore this! It’s not like Jayden’s cheating on me. ‘For crying out loud Luthien! Get a hold of yourself! You’re not even dating that jerk! Just get over it! It’s his life and continue yours without him’, another voice this time a stern voice scolded me mentally. I sighed heavily. Maybe I should call Ness to get my thoughts away from this prospect.

I breathe an amount of air to calm me down. I hid again behind the tarp of the Dairy Queen. I didn’t peek anymore knowing that all those things I felt and thought of will come back fast. I opened Victor and pulled out Sammy to start it. I impatiently tapped my fingers on my table waiting for Sammy to completely turn on and also for my order. I completely forgot about my order.

I glanced behind me looking for Jaydie, the cashier and the one who’ll make my Blizzard. She’s still there chatting to someone. But my order’s not yet so I looked back at Sammy as I noticed it having ten messages on it. Ignoring it, I scrolled for a number that I might call to let me forget this scene. I tapped ‘Call’ and it rang. I tapped my fingers on my table impatiently waiting hopefully for Ness to answer my call.

I suddenly stopped tapping as she answered my call. “Ness! Girl! What the hell took you so long to answer!? I need to talk to you like now! I can’t wait for Monday-“

“What can’t wait for Monday?”

I stopped abruptly noticing how deep and familiar the voice of the person on the other line is. Didn’t I dial Ness’ number? Was she kidnapped or something? Or is this her boyfriend speaking? She didnt mention she has one. Confused, I talked to the stranger on the other side of the line. “I’m sorry, can I talk to Ness. This is kind of urgent…” I requested.

“I believe that’s impossible right now.”      

“Uhm, is she busy or something?” I inquired to the stranger drumming my fingers again.

“I don’t know. Guess so? But you can leave a message then I will relay it to her later.”

“Uhm…” I thought for a moment whether I can trust this stranger with the things I need to talk with Ness and the way he responded to my request. It seemed like he doesn’t want me to talk to Ness at all. What if he doesn’t do it? I shook my head and replied, “No need, it can wait till I talk to her again.”
