(First of all, since the last time this thing was updated, the reads literally went crazy. From 80 something it reached to 131 reads in just a few days, and as the author, thank you all so much!
Second of all, the book is still entitled "Eurovision Rants" for a reason, and what I often posted in here were mainly "Eurovision 101" and "How to promote other contests aside Eurovision", Kebab style.
The rants will be noted in the title, just as in this case - and some of them might... trigger a few people, but hey, I hope you'd still understand me.
Alright? Let's begin then.)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------What's an Eurovision book without some random ramblings, personal opinions about certain issues and one round of people which wait quietly to read this and debate whether if they should agree, be neutral or simply go full triggered.
Also this book is called "Eurovision Rants" and only "rants" I've made, well... I'm a pretty bad author then. But hey, there's always a start for something. You know how it is: better late than never.
Back to the topic then:
When it comes to Eurovision, the main focus are the artists which represent their native country. And when you think of artists, you initially think of the fandom which comes afterwards if they become popular in the Eurovision community.
And when you think of a fandom... well... yeah.
Of course, not all the fandoms are the same. However, there's this category of people which seem to be... more interested in other domain than the song or the vocals.
And I'm talking of the appearance. It's not the case to everyone, don't worry, I don't generalise the fandom as a whole, but I've seen multiple cases where this had happened so I'm going on a rant on this topic.
For some reason, I keep on finding some comments below the song or a top sometimes which goes like:
"I love this song because he/she's cute."
"This song is so underrated, x and y are hot!"
"OMG, how dare you! X/Y is hotter than you'll ever be, you're just jealous because he/she's both talented and beautiful!"
Quite like so. And this kind of comments seemed to have increased a lot in the past years for.... some kind of reason I generally don't seem to get. Maybe it's just me.
But claiming the singer is "hot" doesn't give a relevant reason why the song should be more appreciated. After all, who the respective person blame if that singer doesn't qualify or does very poorly overall?
After all, Eurovision is usually named fully as Eurovision Song Contest and not Eurovision Beauty Contest. Beauty is generally subjective, it varies from a person to another, but some people take the term to a whole new extreme.
The main question though: For what?
Who you're trying to impress, dear? Because in all honesty, many people which might just pass around trying to figure out where to place the song in their tops (let's say) might consider this kind of comment either some sort of joke or simply ignore it.Some Eurovision artists are either praised or pretty damn bashed just based on their looks and not their actual talent. Obviously, there's acts which can do both sides and pull it off flawlessly.
