(Kicking off, yet again, with another rant from your good old kebab herself, this is something which basically shouldn't surprise you much. Thankfully here isn't so prevalent, but with the fandom growing, we don't know what to expect...)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Today we're basically covering a topic you've probably heard so many freaking times in other fandoms - and presumably on Wattpad too, it's literally filled with such things like those, whether is fluff, lemon or whatever else.
Fanfictions.
No fandom seems to escape the influence and the power of fanfictions throughout its run. Like, if you can see, there's a loooooot of fanfictions going on through Wattpad and there's way more coming on a daily basis.
And trust me - The Eurovision fandom hadn't technically escaped this one either.
Despite the fact that the Eurovision fandom is rather small in comparison with other fandoms covered in sites dedicated to fanfictions in general, with the fandom quietly increasing year by year, so does the number of favorites, and of course, sometimes leading to our topic.
But the main question we're covering today is:
Are fanfictions entirely toxic?...Well, it depends.
And now we're quietly going to the shipping section - because, obviously, it's written on the title. Therefore, it needs to be talked at least a bit.
Ah, shipping. Basically the key-element you'd need to make a fanfiction nowadays, no matter the fandom or the style. Basically that thing which you rarely see missing in a fanfiction because... well, everyone seems to adore couples and their actions through several pages, chapters & even sequels.
I do think fanfictions do offer good stuff on table, especially for new writers or children which want to put their creativity and imagination in a way to fill their time - and even learn through mistakes, not everyone is perfect in writing in English to begin with. Or spelling, by any matter.
But.... on the other hand...
Let's say that some people seem to just protect a ship with all their human being that they basically become obsessed with them.
(Hell, no wonder there's ship wars in big fandoms...)The Eurovision fandom is not that signifiant as in comparison with k-pop fandom or anime fandom - but it doesn't mean that some people won't go fully for shipping two acts.
When it comes to fanfics regarding Eurovision acts, there's 4 big main categories:
1: The Gay Ships (which is pretty self-explanatory)
2: The Self-Insert Ships (also pretty self-explanatory)
3: The Straight Ships (it ain't much prevalent though)
4: The Others (which doesn't even often cover a ship, more like doing a one-shot thing regarding an act or some imaginary event)The fanfictions level began rising in the Eurovision community since probably 2014, but they imploded big time in 2017 on Wattpad after all the self-insert ships with Kostov looked like they were never ending.
Like, literally, the first time I checked Wattpad on the Eurovision tag before I would do this book were either self-insert books with the 2017 runner-up on them, either some gay ships.
(I did find some others too, but they were very rare and I had to scroll down a lot to find them)
